“Beyond our expectations”

We booked this hotel hoping for somewhere clean and comfortable as a base for exploring the Amalfi coast and we were more than satisfied. The room was large with a comfy bed (firm, but that's how we like it) with a private balcony (nb: sea view rooms are extra but worth it, imo) and an uninterrupted view of the sea. The bathroom was a good size with a jacuzzi bath and a shower with jets. Breakfast was a continental affair, with cereal, eggs, bread, cheese, meats, fruit, cakes, etc, etc and everything was delicious. You could eat your breakfast on the veranda looking at the glorious views being gently warmed by the rising sun. While the decor could be considered by some as a little dated it was all very well kept, maintained and very clean. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel (definitely recommend using the buses to get around!) and there is a plethora of fantastic restaurants to choose from in Praiano itself (a little walking required to head back into the town proper). So, in summary, awe-inspiring views from your bedroom and your breakfast, large comfy room and bed, courteous and helpful staff, good location.

Area recommendations
Don't bother hiring a car, you probably won't use it. Catch a bus from Naples to Sorrento, then use the SITA buses to get around. It's cheaper, less stressful (you'll see why when you see the roads/drivers) and you both get a great view of the scenery. Plus, you can enjoy a bottle of wine at lunchtimes :) Restaurants we tried in Praiano: Hotel Onde Verde Costa Diva Hotel Il Pino Towns we visited: Sorrento Amalfi Positano (favourite) In Amalfi, try the restaurants at the far right of the port, away from the main tourist crowds. Do: go for a boat ride along the coast. Don't: bother with the emerald grotto. If you like limoncello, by a bottle from one of the many shops that sells it, not as a shot in a bar/cafe ( 3€ a bottle, 7€ a shot :-O ). In Positano, follow the coast path from the main beach around to the right and you'll find a fantastic little restaurant called Lo Guarracino with one of the best views on the coast.
Getting there
Don't bother hiring a car, the local bus services are more than adequate. If you do hire a car, make sure you don't use the Esso petrol station just outside the airport as they'll try and scam you.
Getting around
Use the buses, don't bother with a hire car. Great views and wine at lunch, a much more relaxed way of exploring the coast Also, there are ferries running between the towns, but they tend to only go between the larger towns out of season.

“A truly relaxing experience”

Hotel La Perla was a very pleasant surprise. At first we thought it may have been too far from the township of Praiano (about 1 km walk), however, it proved to be very close to a swimming beach, fabulous restaurants and the marina where the water taxis leave for the larger centres of Amalfi and Positano, or catch the SITA bus at the bottom of the driveway. Both Amalfi and Positano are crawling with tourists. The sea view rooms in La Perla have the most amazing balcony with outstanding views that are hard to tear yourself away from. The staff are very attentive and friendly and breakfast on the terrace is always a joy. If you want a relaxing experience, La Perla is ideal. We will definitely be going back again.

Area recommendations
Positano for local clothes, art and craft and crowded beaches. Also to catch the ferries to Capri. Amalfi for trinkets and souvernirs. Praiano for crystal clear water, peace and quiet.
When to go
August, September, October after the main tourist crowds have left.
Getting around
SITA buses are the easiest and cheapest way to see the Amalfi coast, however to gain a different perspective of the coastline, take a water taxi from Amalfi, Positano or Praiano.
Nightlife
African Nightclub in Praiano but make sure it's in the summer season. Nightlclub closes end of September for the winter season.

“Great for local travel”

Great little three star hotel, perfect for local travel to Amalfi, Positano and Capri. We found the hotel very clean and well looked after, staff was friendly and helpful. Be prepared for stairs, but don't miss local cookies at breakfast, they're great! Coach stop just down the stairs, with plenty of choices for day trips to Amalfi or Positano. It's about 20-30 min to either and it's cheap, a few EUR each way. You can take a day boat trip to Capri from the local marina, which is just at the end of a footpath. The local beach is very close and the other more luxurious beach in Praiano is a free boat ride away. There are a few restaurants just next to the hotel, with more ample choices at the of Praiano. Enjoy!

“Worst room in the hotel”

Maybe because we had a child sharing the room we were given what must be the worst room in the hotel. Our friends room was good but we were in a very hot,low ceilings, pokey, stuffy room. Very clean room, nice people, good breakfast included.

“a pearl on the suburbs”

La Perla Hotel is a gem on the coast! It's a lovely hotel with magnificent view, around 2km walk from the center (and the shops), but only 5 min walk away from the beach, AND just opposite SITA bus stop! the staff couldn't be more helpful and breakfast with cappuccino was amazing! Praiano is the best town to stay in when on Amalfi Coast, it's right in the middle between Positano and Amalfi, is less touristy but still very charming! Enjoy your stay as much as I did!

Area recommendations
You have to go to the beach and eat at Da Armandino trattoria on the beach, right underneath the cliff! Simply the best restaurant in town!
Getting there
To get to Praiano from Naples Airport just get a Curreri bus from just outside the airport (€10, buy from the driver), to Sorrento and then take SITA bus from the same location (direction - Amalfi); you need to buy the ticket at the tabacchi nearby. There are a lot of American tourists around, so if you are used to jumping the queue the European way, forget it! The bus takes about 60 people, so don't worry if you see a long line - you can still get on! Just tell the driver what town and what hotel you are going to and he will drop you off!
Getting around
Getting around couldn't be easier! SITA buses run regular service and the best option is to get the 3 day ticket for €18 (90 min ticket costs €3.90 and 24h is €7.40) Buy tickets at the newsagents (tabacchi) There is also a local bus running between Praiano and Positano and you buy ticket from the driver for €1.50.
What to pack
Definitely pack good shoes, as there are fantastic hiking routes on Amalfi Coast and it's also the best way to see Capri - walk!
Dining
Da Armandino and Locanda Della Costa in Praiano, try melanzane ripiene (stuffed aubergine) and fresh fish!

“Wonderful getaway”

I arrived at this gem (or should I say Pearl) of a hotel around 6pm. Someone came down the steps and carried my bags up for me. I got all checked in then they carried my bags up to my room. I thought it was a room without a view until I stepped out onto the balcony and saw the sea. The room had a jacuzzi tub and a bidet. Breakfast included perfect cappuccinos, breads, hams, cheese, pastries, yoghurt, fruit.... I ate the most delicious orange in the history of oranges (and I grew up in Florida!) the juices ran down my fingers as I peeled it. The staff were very nice and helpful, recommending restaurants, shopping, printing bus schedules for me, and letting me use the internet. There were books available to read in a variety of languages. I had dinner one night at the hotel, it was so good, I ate there the next night too! I had some kind of spicy bowtie pasta with shrimp, lamb marsala, and a rosemary steak (not all at the same time!) They were all fantastic. They did a great deal for a complete meal of first course, second course with veg, and desert for less than it would cost for a single course at some places. Everything was just perfect. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Area recommendations
You can take the SITA bus from right outside the hotel. I took in to Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. I highly recommend doing it. If you fly in to Naples, it's well worth it to make a day trip out of getting down there. I took the ALIBUS from the airport to the port where I took the hydrofoil to Sorrento, then from Sorrento the SITA bus. I'm really glad I did it that way, as I was only there for a few days and really felt that I got more out it that way. The only problem is from Sorrento's port you have to get up to the town to walk to the Circumvesuviana station to get the SITA bus and there's about a million and a half stairs.....there's probably a bus, I learned the hard way! Going back I took the earliest SITA which got stuck in traffic and arrived half an hour late, then the Currier Viaggi coach to the airport which got stuck in traffic and was a hour late. I dare say the Hydrofoil is faster, although it takes time to get through Naples on the ALIBUS. I don't think you could make it to the airport for a morning flight.

“Love to go back.”

I would recommend the hotel to all. We were very impressed with the service and attitude of all the staff. If I decide to go back to that part of Italy again, I will definately be staying at La Perla.

“La Perla - Above and Beyond”

The people at La Perla are what makes the hotel so great. I can't say enough about Vincenzo, he's awesome. We arrived late and everything in town was closed. Vincenzo and Davide created a plate of delicious paninis so we didn't go hungry. They even poured us wine as we sat out on the veranda and ate. They were very welcoming after such a long trip. The hotel is very charming. Especially the seating are on the veranda where you can see to Furore. The rooms are comfortable with mini-fridges and a jacuzzi tub! Morning meal consists of cereal, fresh fruit (bananas, cherries, kiwis, oranges,) crossiants and various pastries, salami, ham, cheese, boiled eggs and coffee of your choice. It's very simple and very good because everything is fresh. The location is great, the is a SITA bus stop just beneath the driveway. Just across the road is a path leading to Marina di Praia (the beach.) Hotel La Perla is great! I recommend it to everyone!

Area recommendations
Hotel La Perla area. If you want a relaxing vacation, this is the place to stay. It's far enough away from the city center but still easily accessible.
Getting there
We took a private bus from Naples to Sorrento for 10 euro. In Sorrento, we had to transfer to a SITA bus to get to Praiano. It seems easy ... but when you don't speak Italian, things can get a little tricky. This is important: They do not sell SITA passes at the bus station in Sorrento, or on the bus itself. You MUST purchase your pass from a Tabacchi or local bar. We didn't know this and almost missed our bus. So, plan enough time between transfers to go purchase your SITA pass, or puchase the pass ahead of time.

“Beautiful Praiano”

We spent six nights at Hotel La Perla using it as our base to explore the Amalfi Coast and just relax. It was amazing. We had an economy room, but our double doors opened onto a balcony that gave us amazing views of the coastline. The buffet breakfast here is a divine experience with the abundant buffet breakfast and then the stunning breakfast balcony views! Staff are very helpful and our room was cleaned fresh everyday.

Area recommendations
I would also recommend going to Ravello. You can easily get the Sita bus down to Amalfi and then another Sita Bus from the Amalfi bus station up to the little village. The gardens of the Villa Cimbrone in Ravello is a magical place with gorgous views of the coastline and countryside and definately worth the 6 euro entrance. I would also recommend doing the walk from Amalfi up to Pontone along the river past all the old paper mills. It's gorgous! Pompeii is also an easy day trip from Praiano. We caught the Sita Bus to Sorrento and then the train directly to Pompeii station.
Getting there
Getting to the hotel via bus: There is a direct bus that leaves from Naples to Sorrento almost every hour. It costs 10 euro and is directly outside the airport. Ask at the tourist information centre for the bus number. I would recommend if you are coming via Sita bus from Sorrento make sure you are clear on where you need to get off the bus at Praiano. We missed our stop as we only saw the hotel sign after the bus had gone past . Make sure the driver knows that you want to get off at Praiano Marina di Praia. For a landmark, it's after the main section of Praiano coming from Sorrento direction, on a tight corner where there is a car park. Press the button as you see the old saracen tower down below. It also pays to have a Sita bus timetable handy, otherwise you'll find yourself waiting for the bus for an 30-60 mins. However, this is no real hardship as long as you are not in a hurry and the sun is shining, there are much worse places to be and views are spectacular all around this area! The hotel very helpfully as a copy and ferry timetables in the lobby.
