“Excellent spot!”
An old, small hotel right between the sea and the main square in Amalfi. Beautiful views, clean room, but very tight quarters. I had a single room, small bed, hard flat pillows, very tiny shower stall. Lovely marble balcony overlooking the sea. Very helpful and polite staff, best location in town. Highly recommended but bring your own pillow if you have any neck problems.
“Great Amalfi hotel”
Great value and very clean hotel, friendly staff, gave us towels for the beach too. If we go back we'll stay here.
“Reasonable. Good central location in Amalfi”
Basically, this hotel is fine, but nothing special. The location is very good and our room (seaview] was perfectly fine for the price. Breakfast could be greatly improved - cake, cake and more cake and little else. No fresh fruit, little choice. Cakes also re-served day after day until finished. B'fast room v crowded when hotel busy. Staff pleasant enough.
“Great location close to buses and boats to travel the Amalfi Coast”
The manager of the Hotel Fontana is Luana who was extremely helpful during our 3 week stay. She and the staff were great to deal with and we would certainly stay there again.
“Very good value.”
The hotel was very close to the shops and sea. It is a good base to take trips to Capri, Sorrento and Positano. The room was very good and cleaned daily. The noise level was as expected having read other reviews. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Good value hotel for this area.
“Great time in Italy”
The room was nice and the hotel is located right in the heart of Amalfi town center. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. A hearty breakfast is served each morning. I would go back today if possible!!
“Good location in Amalfi - breakfast uninspired.”
We stayed 6 nights, the location on the cathedral square was great..once you were used to the idea that the hotel has no ground floor and access is via a flight of steps next to a cafe.(there is a lift from one of the cafes underneath the hotel for moving bags). Amalfi is very scenic. We were given a family room for the two of us with a balcony overlooking a side street and part of the square which was spacious, clean etc.. Drawback was unispired breakfast... where you did feel the staff were trying to minimise work for themselves. Plastic cups for juice the first few days, yoghurts not being replenished if you were later down. Typical italian rolls/meat/cheese and sweet coissant/cake - but after a few days I would have loved fruit, or a boiled egg or cereal (no milk). The valet parking cost 18 Euros a day in May 2010 but it worked well and we rarely had to wait for more than a few minutes . Warning - the coast road is very busy with hairpin bends, coaches coming the other direction and all the local cars have dents! But we did manage to visit Pompeii, Paestum etc. by car - amazing - as well as local places by boat, bus.
“Great Hotel!!”
great food , nice people, beautifull city!! cant wait to go back!
“don't stay here unless you want to pay high parking rates”
hotel was nice, beautiful view, good breakfast but staff was impatient and not friendly; more interested in computer and socializing with other staff. parking info given by desk clerk was inaccurate (see above) and nearly cost me $75.
“Highlight of our trip”
My wife and I wanted to stay in Amalfi overnight on a recent tour of Italy and chose this hotel based on reviews. We were not disappointed. It is in the center of town and easily reached from the large bus stop on the waterfront. The sign is on the building facing the water. Just walk thru the white arch, across the street and on the right just before the square, up a small flight of stairs is the hotel. Is is very clean with a flare of the past. We stayed on the square side facing the church. It was great. It has the location, location. I will stay there again on any return. It would be my choice for any price, but the rates were good to boot.

Area:
Amalfi, Italy: A charming cluster of pastel houses, shops, cafés and watchtowers, Amalfi seems little more than a village. However it was a great naval power and a wealthy trading republic in medieval times. Its dramatic setting in jagged cliffs cloaked in vineyards is best seen from a boat. Amalfis star turn is a gorgeous cathedral with great bronze doors and lacy cloisters. The nearby village of Atrani is quiet and pretty, with a fine Byzantine church.
