“Ideal for a base for the Amalfi coast”

Excellent location on the sea front, overlooking a working harbour and within easy walking distance, along the flat, to the ferries, bus station and town centre. Hotel is 3 star and offers en suite rooms with balcony. Breakfast is buffet style on the garden terrace. No kitchen facilities so only coffee, tea and toast were the hot options. No other meals offered but there are oddles of restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk. Staff were friendly and competent offering advice and recommendations when needed. The owner gave a cocktail party during the week which was highly appreciated. Parking is available in front of the hotel; this is a godsend as parking along the coast really is a nightmare - as is driving on the coastal roads. Apart from taxis to and from Amalfi, all our journeys were by ferry or bus. Fares were incredibly cheap by London standards.

Area recommendations
Certainly the sea front. Watching a working harbour and ferry port within a few hundred metres was a fascinating way to spend time as the day began. Amalfi, as with other coastal towns ans villages, is built on a hill and risies steeply. Good exercise just going up and down the streets and steps.
When to go
We went towards the end of the season and benefitted from less crowded conditions.
Getting there
We were strongly advised not to drive and I can quite see why! The roads are tortuous, winding, narrow and steep. Buses are plentiful, reliable and cheap. Ferries are the only way to the islands - unless travellers have access to helicopters! Taxi fares are about euros 100 each way and can be arranged either by the hotel or by online booking agents.
Dining
Plenty of places to eat with competitive prices given the sheer volume of restaurants. Wide range of food although fish and pizza dominated rather than meat.

“a litle gem”

We really loved this hotel.Nice , clean and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was good and plentiful.Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperated so we couldn't enjoy the beautiful terrace .The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We already recommended it to all our frends and definitely be back.Thank you Aurora for the upgrade. To wake up in the morning to such a beautiful view made all the difference.

Area recommendations
Take a trip to Ravello ,Sorrento and Positano. The drive is spectacular .

“Great find!”

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, and our regret was not staying longer. The hotel was only a 10 minute, flat (thank god!) walk from the bus area. We were greeted by a lovely man with a British accent who told us everything and gave us business cards to his favourite restaurants that offered us a 10% discount. We went to one of them 'Il Tari" and it was amazing food! The 2nd day we spent 12 Euro and rented 2 sun beds and an umbrella, and though it sounds expensive, it was great! The room in the hotel was not huge, but it was more than I expected, and the bathroom was spotless. We didn't have any issues bringing in our own ove rsized bottled water, and we were never told about any "food rule" that was mentioned in other reviews. All in all a great hotel with only good feedback. All staff were really nice to us, even the cleaning ladies! I am really looking forward to returning!

Dining
If you are a seafood lover, you must go to Il Tari, it is a little walk up the main street of Amalfi, going up the hill in the centre, but well worth it. We enjoyed every delicious mouthful of our meals.

“Perfect for exploring the Amalfi Coast.”

Small but very friendly hotel. Great location to explore Amalfi and its beautiful cost line. Staff even brought a bottle of bubbly up to our room as we were celebrating a special birthday. What a lovely gesture. Would definitely go back.

Area recommendations
You must visit Ravello and the Villa Gardens - Quite spectacular as was Pompei.

“Highly recommended”

This hotel is a real gem. The staff were all lovely and helpful. I suspect we had one of the smaller rooms (fourth floor, tiny balcony) but even so was really delighted with it - comfy bed, clean bathroom, nice tiled floor. The fan/air con wasn't terribly effective, but no other complaints. What is fabulous is its location. You are really close to the main town - a few minutes walk - but can avoid the bustle of the main square. It is also really special to have a view of the sea - there's a great terrace for breakfast and relaxing on. There is also a nice private beach - less crowded than main beach (be warned the beaches are stoney, but hotel provides sun loungers etc). Had a really lovely happy relaxing holiday here and would strongly recommend the hotel.

Traveller's tip
Have dinner at the nearby Luna Convento - beautiful views of the bay. Day trip to Ravello -higher up than Amalfi and has a more refined vibe. Don't bother with Capri - very very crowded and hectic.

“Not what I expected”

Last minute we were goign to change hotels, but decided to stay with this hotel because of all the good reviews on trip advisor. I wish we had changed. When we arrived at the hotel, our room was not ready. Andre at the front desk offered us a bottle of wine to compensate which was very nice. We went to our hotel room - it was clean and a decent size. The second day we were there, my husband and I woke up to find that the toilet was NOT working. We called downstairs and Andre said that he would call the plumber. The plumber came pretty quickly and started fixing away. It was very disgusting to see that he was cleaning the supplies in the sink. It was resolved. And the fact that Andre gave us a free bottle of wine on our fist night, we took it easy on him instead of being extremely frustrated. Do not bring water or food from outside because they do check the rooms and will charge you. We hid our drinks. Also, if you have food, be prepared to have little ants. The hotel is at a great location, beach is right there! I would not recommend this hotel. Andre was nice, but it was still not what we were looking for.

Traveller's tip
Rent a boat - very fun! Eat at Lido Azzuro a couple steps from the hotel - DELIC! Also, get the sea view rooms because they have AC where as the others don't!

“ok...”

Pleasant staff. Decent room. Nice town. Pretty beaches. It's a little strange that they don't let you bring food into the room, and although there's a mini-fridge, you can't put anything in there buy their (really expensive) drinks. Breakfast is great out on the veranda- good coffee!! Overall- good, not great. If you're going in low season, you could probably find a place for less along the coast just by showing up, and looking for signs for "camere" or rooms.

Traveller's tip
If you just want a cheap place to stay, and don't care about luxury- look into camping villages. Most have bungalows or mobile homes to rent with kitchens, bathrooms. We stayed in one in Sorrento- gorgeous private "beach" (it's a big solid rock on the water). They can be really nice and very inexpensive!

“Location, Location, Location”

The Aurora's location is wonderful, overlooking the harbor and a short walk into the main part of town. The hotel is immaculate! The staff extremely helpful and friendly. The morning breakfast provided was a great way to start the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel!!!

Area:

Amalfi, Italy: A charming cluster of pastel houses, shops, cafés and watchtowers, Amalfi seems little more than a village. However it was a great naval power and a wealthy trading republic in medieval times. Its dramatic setting in jagged cliffs cloaked in vineyards is best seen from a boat. Amalfi’s star turn is a gorgeous cathedral with great bronze doors and lacy cloisters. The nearby village of Atrani is quiet and pretty, with a fine Byzantine church.
