The Hotel La Bussola is a high quality family owned hotel overlooking the harbour in the village of Amalfi. Perfect location. Off street parking. Free high-speed wi-fi. Spotlessly clean. Fantastic views. Great breakfast. Very helpful front desk team. I advised them that I would be leaving very early on morning of departure and they had thoughtfully brought my car to the front of the hotel ready for me. If I ever go back to that area I would look forward to staying at the hotel again.

We had a marvelous time on our week long trip and stayed at the Excelsior the enire time. The view was breathtaking from our lovely balcony. The daily shuttle to the private beach and city center of Amalfi was perfect. The mediterranean is so different each day sometimes calm sometimes big surf. The elevator down to the beach was very James Bond! You had the sense of adventure. Also if you have those OP beach shoes, wear them. They are perfect for the beach which is large smooth pebbles. There is a big difference having them and not having them if you are a baby like me. The Europeans don't wear them of course since they are used to it.
There is a romantic sense of discovery everywhere and the view is hypnotic. We did everything! We went on a small boat ride to Capri arranged by Annie, the concierge at the hotel. It was out of this world to swim in the grotto and have your own boat to take you wherever you want. We had a cooking lesson too at the Carcara Restaurant which was another highlight arraned by Annie too. She was marvlous to us. We went to Ravello which was an easy city bus ride from the town center of Amalfi. Everything was very easy to figure out with her help.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Hotel Marmorata. An excellent position overlooking the sea - totally relaxing. Staff were excellent very attentive but not over the top. Initial concern at not being in the heart of Ravello went away after seeing the views. Food was also excellent for breakfast lunch and dinner.

We stayed here 2 nights during off season for our honeymoon. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a large terrace overlooking Positano - it was amazing!!!! Room was clean and comfortable, it wasn't very big though and a ceiling fan would have been nice as room got a little stuffy. Shower was tight but had great water pressure. The only thing that didn't work out for us as planned was the room rate we purchased from expedia included a "breakfast buffet". Once at the hotel they charged us 12 Euro per person per day for breakfast as expedia did not have the correct specifics on our room reservation requirements. This wasn't the first mistake expedia made either; the other hotel we booked a "balcony garden room" only to arrive and find that these rooms do not exist at the hotel. The hotel staff was nice and explained that sometimes there is a translation error from Italian to English, I get it but I also want to get what I expect I am paying for...
Lots has been written about this hotel. It is all correct. The hotel had arranged for our pick up at Amalfi harbour at 03.00am after we left a party in Capri still at full swing, and we were whisked straight up to the Rosa Suite which is split on 22 levels and overlooks the beautiful blue sea. Nothing was missing, and the staff had even laid out a late night supper of Italian delicacies to welcome us. We only spent 2 nights and lazed by the pool most of the time, but we were definitely looked after as well as anywhere in the world. We ate at the lovely restaurant and watched the full moon reflect in the water far below. All-in-all it is an old world version of the Burj Al Arab (and without the gold and glitz) and definitely a place we will return to one day.
My wife and I stayed in the hotel with our baby son. The hotel is impeccable - it's perched high above the Mediterranean with amazing views of the water and the City of Amalfi. The room was spacious and very well maintained, we used room service a lot - the dinner on balcony is amazing.
