Doubtlessly second to none hotel in Bali, and maybe in Asia. Great get away, very quiet, well organized and gorgeous pool villas with a balanced mix of traditional Balinese architecture and modern appliances. The hotel's various activities provided half board basis were best to relax body and soul.
The staff here have worked hard to create a great atmosphere. The hotel is set in peaceful grounds 25minutes drive from the centre of Ubud. Complimentary shuttles to and from the town centre are provided (a small charge for the evening shuttle). The grounds are set on a steep valley side but you can get a lift around in a golf cart if you don't want to walk. There is a complimentary yoga class every morning and a well equipped gym with cardio machines, weight machines and free weights. Our room was large and well maintained with complimentary mini bar restocked daily, tea making facilities and a coffee machine. Bathroom was also large with separate shower and bath. Food is fantastic with breakfast being all you can eat from a menu with plenty of variety (bakery, fruit, Indonesian, Western, pancakes, juices, tea, coffee). There is also complimentary afternoon tea. Dinner is fine dining so is obviously more expensive than you could find in Ubud but we felt it was still good value considering the exceptional level of service, delicious food and great atmosphere (live pianist most evenings). This is a fantastic hotel that should be proud of its staff!
I stayed three nights and loved it! If you're after the whole Kuta Bali experience then this is not the place for you. If you're after stunning views, nature (I saw monkeys, lizards, frogs, birds from my balcony) and a relaxing get away from it all then this hotel is great. A free shuttle into Ubud is easy to organise for spa treatments (Bali Botanical is great) and sightseeing in Ubud, whilst the hotel itself provided clean rooms and friendly accomodating service. The language capabilities of the stafff where adequate to the standards I've encountered on previous trips to Bali, no worse. An attempt to learn a few words in the native language goes a long way as it does anywhere in the world (ie; terima kasih - thankyou, tolong - please). As a solo woman traveller, I also felt very comfortable - don't be put off by expedia claims that "clothing is optional" as throughout my stay all guests and staff etc were suitably clothed as befits the traditional culture of the Balinese. All in all, a great place to stay if you want to think, relax, swim in a boutique hotel, away from the strobe lights and crowds in Kuta.

My sister and I stayed there for 4 nights. We had prepaid for our room. Everything was ready upon our arrival. They had drinks waiting in our room for us. The staff were superb. They knew us by name. We had a wakeup call setup one morning but we got out of the room much before that and were in the restaurant eating breakfast when the waitress told us about our wakeup call! They had tracked us down to ensure that we were OK and up. The afternoon tea was a nice surprise and food served was perfect. We used the spa twice and it was perfect. We used their free shuttle and we found it to be quite convenient. We asked them to call our driver that we had hooked up with in Kuta and without hesitation they did (several times). At another very reputable hotel in Nusa Dua they would NOT do that. They wanted to charge us $2 per minute! I cannot say enough about how wonderful everyone at Komaneka was. I highly recommend it and would LOVE to go back in the future.
Hotel was very clean, but you could not feel any soul or passion as you would expect and see in other hotels on Bali. The room wS really big but not especially well furnished, lots of empty walls in the whole hotel - just doesn't make you feel cozy...
Next to the hotel there was aa construction site which resulted in a huge heap of soil directly in front of our villa. Maybe not the hotel's fault - but another factor to not feel in a paradise...
Overall a good hotel, definitely. But others just do it much better...
The hotel is mainly meant for newly wed couples or older couples, so it was very quiet and beautifully nested close to paddy fields. As it is located well outside Ubud, the hotel provides a shuttle to Ubud, which is convenient.
