“"Not Bad"”

Hotel: Great for couples/families and friends Room: Cleaned every day before 6pm Comfort of the beds are comfortable can’t complain (two twin beds pushed together) There are very tiny insects near the dressing table on the floor so dont put your clothes on the floor. Breakfast: We went BB, Not that bad. But it is the same food every single day (sausage/beans/bacon/scramble eggs/stale bread/buns) and if you’re lucky you may get one different type of food on a one off occasion such as fried potatoes/tomatoes. Not much fruit and also it is all gone off (you can see fungus in the apples and pears). Grapes were okay but have seeds but that didn’t bother us. Snack bar: Nice food, drinks and a huge variety of ice creams and good service.

Area recommendations

Location: Alvor centre is a 15-20mins walk from the hotel which wasn’t so bad. The Alvor centre has really nice jellwery shops Portimao shopping is worth seeing (lovely shops/bargin). This is new shopping centre just built called Aqua Portimao.

Getting there

Transfers: Recommend you book a shuttle bus as this will work out cheaper than a taxi. Faro airport to Yellow Alvor is 45mins.

Outdoors or beach

The hotel provides a bus to the Alvor centre and beach which was handy. Beach is lovely (recommend a walk to the far end where the rocks/carves are) Alvor centre is a 15-20mins walk from the hotel which wasn’t so bad.

Other

Other: Take your own towels as this 4* hotel asks you for a deposit of 20 Euro each which isn’t that bad. But as a 4*hotel you would expect them to provide you with towels without the hassle of some deposit. Great bar service in the evening (lovely cocktails) and a big thank you to barman Tommy who was very friendly/warm/jolly/welcoming and Steve at reception is friendly too. Watch out for Angela at reception she will charge you 50 cents to make reservations at a restaurant because she wants to make commission. We only found this out until Steve told us “we don’t charge you to make reservations” The rest of the staff is moody especially during breakfast time you will not get a smile or a hello. Overall: The hotel is not that bad it has a lovely pool and gardens in which you can also see hoarse etc

“Yellow Alvor”

This is a nice hotel in lovely grounds and a very quiet location. It is difficult to find if you ignore the road signs ;-). Room service was very good, pool excellent. However, the pool side bar is the only place to get food during the day and they only sell toasted sandwiches or burgers + chips. The main downer is that the waiter (in the poolside bar) has to go and collect the food from the kitchens which then means a wait of some 5 mins before the next person is served. There was only one barman working at any one time so queues did develop. Same for the evening, is poolside bar closes at around 6:30 and the cocktail bar then opens again with one barman. If he gets an order for cocktails be prepared to wait up to 15mins to get your order in. Btw, the same barman has to clear the tables. So waiting could become a frustrating experience. The hotel is about a 15 min walk From Alvor town centre (even less if/when the shuttle bus is working). Not a great deal of entertainment with a couple of singers three times a week in the cocktail bar. You'd need a car to get out and about and it's worth it as this is a very quiet hotel.

“Yellow Alvor 2010”

Hotel was fineand whilst the area surrounding the hotwl is in need of upgrading the Hotel was well maintained although not the easiest to locate. As it was Easter and out of season the hotel was far from busy, but has a large pool and surrounding grounds which appear more than adequate for the number of rooms. Well worth making the journey to the old port at Alvor for an evening meal
