“Recommended Hotel Close to Alvor”

If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean, comfortable & modern hotel in a quiet convenient loaction close to Alvor then I don't think you'll better the Alvor Village. It's a 5 minute drive to Alvor or about a 20 minute brisk walk. The hotel has rooms that cater for couples or families. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped (with air con). The TV shows BBC (ideal if your wife likes the soaps!). Nice pool, plenty of beds, quiet location. Good quality self-service breakfast with plenty of choice for all tastes. I think they could do with more staff at breakfast to clear tables a bit quicker, but wasn't a major issue. Free Wi-Fi in the lounge area is an added bonus. Staff on the whole were very courteous and extremely helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.

The beach at Alvor and, in particular, the Restinga beach restaurant...stunning views, great service and excellent food.

“Very good apartment hotel”

Very good apartment hotel, we had a two bed apartment which was very spacious, breakfast great, short walk into town, 30 minute walk to great beaches. Alvor has some good seafood restaurants would recommend luna village.

“Will go back.”

We thought the description underestimated the hotel. Room was large with beautiful views We did not use all the facilities in the room - cooker, dishwasher, microwave. Pool was set in grassy area and was very pleasant - enough lougers for everyone. Alvor town was 8mins walk away but beach was further - we took our hire car to the eastern beach. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only negative comment was that the floor in the room and balcony should have been washed each day as it was looking grubby. Overall we were extremely satisfied with our stay and would recommend to our friends.

“perfect launchpad for the family”

everything about this place is great from the rooms to the food!! the rooms are very comfy (exactly what you see in the pics) very clean and spacious. the bath was a whirpool and the shower was great. the beds nice and firm and the kitchen fully loaded with all the cutlery and crockery you could wish for (poultry shears, anyone?) not that you'll be doing much cooking as the hotel is a ten minute walk down to the beach and there are lots of different types of restaurants to try out. but the hotel itself serves excellent food in a buffet style and it was very cheap. in fact my son (4yrs old) opted for dinner in the hotel every night as the food was so well prepared and i was overjoyed (as a parent) to see him eat all his veg! this hotel was a wonderful place to use as a launchpad to see the algarve, i would definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations
Alvor is a great central area and is only a short bus ride to the lager towns like Portimao and all the attractions are well within a half hour drive away. the tourist info office were superb, carefully explaining everything so we didn't put a foot wrong on our escapades!
Shopping
funnily enough, the local shops (mini-markets) have the same prices as the larger supermarkets for your everyday items like bread milk coffee and the price for biscuits and confectionary is very high 2-3 times what we'd pay in london (it makes you think twice about piling on all those extra calories!)
Outdoors or beach
the beach at alvor is wonderful, nice soft sand not sharp at all and in the sun it looks exquisite. my son and i just wandered and played on the beach all day as it was so beautiful. we went in february so it was desserted, it was like our own private playground, one person would stoll by every half hour or so otherwise the sun, sea and sand were all ours!

“Just Right”

A lovely clean Hotel, friendly staff, and quiet aspect. Rooms very spacious, and kept very tidy. It's a little outside of the town, which is good, but also means you need to think about walking 1/2 a mile to Alvor itself. Breakfast selection was huge, including fizzy wine. My only gripes were that the internet charge was astronomical, they should provide free wi-fi to guests, and that they charge for using the room safe, which I think is no on. Hence I don't give the hotel 5/5.

Traveller's tip
Trains are cheap, buses less so. Although the Algarve is full of oranges, don't buy any fresh orange juice, as it is stupidly expensive. Go to cafes away from the tourist trap centres, and you can get good food a lot cheaper, especially coffee, at the time of writing was 1 euro

“Lovely hotel”

Very impressed with this clean modern hotel. Suite was spacious and kitchen very well equipped. Had huge balcony with patio doors from lounge and bedroom. Staff very friendly and helpful. Wide selection at breakfast time. Only downside was the quality of the food at dinner. We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings. Both times the food was not the standard you would expect from a 4 star hotel. We did complain and the manager said that it would be looked into. They are keen to sort out any teething problems that are encountered and are constantly trying to improve the hotel.

“Most impressed, excellent value for money.”

We were most impressed with the Junior suite we had booked, it was very clean, roomy, well presented, beds were comfy and adequate for our needs. The bathroom was very clean with power shower over the bath etc. The kitchen area had a large fridge, 2 ring hot plate, cooker, microwave and dishwasher, we felt a washing machine would have been better than a dishwasher. We would certainly return to this Hotel.

Traveller's tip
We did not eat in the restaurant, therefore cannot comment on this. We ate out in Alvor and found the restaurants of very good value e.g. Bread and butter, soup, fried/boiled prawns, choice of main course, dessert, bottle of local wine - very acceptable, coffee, brandy/port this meal for 2 was 22.50 euro's.

“Luna Alvor Village september 2010”

[+ & - are related to our expectations of a 4 star hotel] + Nice lobby near bar with enough space to sit and read something + Information/brochures available about Algarve region + Free Wi-fi internet in lobby + Spacious rooms with fridge + Good climate control (two airconditioners) - Strange smell in the room, even after opening the windows/doors - No fresh orange juice with breakfast - No hair dryer in the room (Have been told that this has been ripped of the wall a long time ago and that they had a portable one, but they didn't know where the housekeeper left it. They also promised that they would leave one in the room the next day. They didn't.) - Very small swimmingpool - Stains in almost every towel - Public areas were reasonable cleaned, rooms could be cleaned better I would only recommend this hotel if you are staying for one or two nights. Hotel employees are friendly people, but management could invest more in simple solutions to small problems. (For example door can't be closed after use of garbage bin. Everytime you use it you have to put the garbage bin back in the holder and like mentioned above just replace the hairdryer.)
