“Lovely Relaxed Travira Getaway”
We really enjoyed our stay here. definately would go again.
“Comfortable hotel”
Always a comfortable stay at this hotel. Breakfast is a treat. Staff are very friendly. Still needs to upgrade in places, WiFi essential. Located in the most beautiful town on the Algarve When staying at this hotel try to avoid a room in the area of the hotel lifts because the tiled floors can be noisy.
“good reliable hotel with a good pool”
great pool for swimming especially in the morning before breakfast
“A good town centre hotel.”
We started a week's holiday with two nights B & B at this hotel before moving along the coast to Cabanas. Very pleased with the place. Our top floor room was well presented and comfortable with balcony views over the central swimming pool. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Great array of fresh hot and cold food for breakfast. The hotel is well placed to make the most of the picturesque centre of Tavira along the river and into the main square.
“Vila Gale Tavira”
Stayed 6 nights in April 2009. Hotel is very conveniently situated close to Tavira centre. In general we were very happy with Hotel. It was clean, well maintained and staff friendly. Rooms were good - we had a pool-facing room and this was a more pleasing aspect than those facing outward toward the street. The pool area itself was good and there were enough sunloungers but availability may be a problem in high season if the Hotel was full. Hotel was very popular with the over-60's. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Dinner buffet was less good and we only ate there only once - there were other restaurants nearby. Biggest disappointment was the bar area which was badly designed, not comfortable and was full of television srceens showing various sporting programmes (this would appeal to some!). The Vila Gale Albacora (sister Hotel 2 kilometers outside Tavira town) is a better Hotel experience but it is not central and you need a car.
“Pretty good hotel”
Overall a good holiday at the Vila Gale Tavira. I wouldn't say it's equivalent to a British 4* standard, but still clean, comfortable and was quite happy to stay there. Our room was a twin with view over the road. Quite a noisy road, so if I went back I'd request a pool view, but only a problem if you sleep with the balcony door open as we did. Double glazing blocked the noise out and air con worked fine. Finally the boat to the beach was fine. Goes through the Ria Formosa, so although it can take up to 40mins, you can watch out for all kinds of bird life (storks, herons, waders, etc). Tavira itself is lovely and just what the doctor ordered when you need a relaxing break. Little cobbledy streets, with a different restaurant to try every night. Don't go there if you bore easily or want to party all night, but if you want to eat good food, relax and watch the world go by, this is the place for you.
“Traditional, Unspoilt Portuguese Town”
We loved the Hotel Vila Gale in Tavira, great location, very spacious, fab pool area & lovely breakfast. (This was despite having a problem with our rooms on the first night & having to move on the 2nd day). In the end we had 2 ground floor interconnecting rooms which were just perfect. A small terrace lead straight onto the pool area which was great for children of all ages, my 2 year old really loved the baby pool which was like a bath! The only downside to the hotel was prices of drinks (3 euro for a can of coke!) & ice creams, etc, although BBQ nite was good value - 22 euro adult / 11 euro child inc local drinks. Tavira ia a beautiful place and relatively unspoiled compared to many other resorts in the Algarve. We have been to Portugal for the past 6 years and have always stayed in Lagos, which we love, but now feel we've found somewhere we like even more. I would describe Tavira as how Lagos would have been say 10-15 years ago. There are many good quality traditional restaurants to sample, you can stroll around the wonderful old cobbled streets, soak up the ambience in one of the many street cafes meet some very friendly locals along the way. Our children also loved Tavira, especially the evening street entertainers and the boat trip to Tavira Island. The whole experince was absolutely brilliant - we would definitely go back to bothe hotel & resort.
“Central and convenient”
My second visit to the hotel. Staff generally friendly and obliging. Excellent twin bedded room ovelooking pool. A main advantage is its closeness to the town centre (a pleasant stroll) so one doesn't need a car to visit the several good restaurants. A few minus points: Beds are very hard; no room wifi or other internet connection; expensive garage. Also, a pity there were no outside tables for breakfast despite bright sunny conditions..
“Comfortable, convenient, but noisy at times”
The hotel is situated on the edge of Tavira, but close enough to walk to restaurants, the river and places of interest. Inside and out the hotel appears smart. Our room was fine for space, clean and comfortable. Reviewers have remarked on the uncomfortable beds. Not our experience, mattresses were firm but comfortable, pillows insubstantial but OK. Staff were sometimes distant but mostly helpful. Breakfast choice was good, coffee not so good! Evening bar entertainment – fine, if rather predictable. We requested a quiet location, and the hotel thoughtfully placed us on the top floor, away from the lifts but regrettably in direct line with a nightclub 200 yards away across a car park. During our stay the club was only a problem on Fridays and Saturdays, but loud music continued until 4am! The biggest problem was noise. Walls are thin, floors inside the rooms are tiled and every conversation, every footstep carries a long way, particularly at night. Banging doors can also be irritating. We walked to restaurants in the town and were pleased with the variety of menus and prices (although few things are cheap). We ate once at the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. Our a la carte choice turned out to be cheaper (but not cheap) than the hotel buffet and was nicely cooked and presented. There are pleasant walks around Tavira, and the local train service is inexpensive and a good way to visit Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the Spanish border or Faro in the opposite direction.
“Elegant & efficient”
Very pleasant place to stay - 10 mins from heart of Tavira. Staff pleasant and efficient. Breakfasts excellent. Rooms comfortable. One small quibble was the 10 euro charge to use the pool but otherwise very satisfied.

Area:
Tavira, Portugal: A handsome riverside town, Tavira is famous for its elegant 18th- and 19th-century architecture. Shunning mass tourism, it leaves international-style bars, restaurants and shops to satellite areas such as the beach resort of Cabanas. There are very good local seafood restaurants however. Its medieval castle ruins offer a panoramic view of the town which includes some fine churches. The beaches close by are long, flat and sandy.
