“Fabulous location”

This hotel is in an amazing location, situated in the Old Town, right on the beach, and all rooms have a sea view balcony. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and the cooked food was varied every day. Don't expect a double room because they are all twin beds. The evening entertainment in the bar area overlooking the sea was very popular. We had a fabulous stay with no complaints.

Area recommendations
Old Town, because of the shops and restaurants and lovely network of small streets
Dining
Try the 3 crowns restaurant on top of the cliff on the way to Fisherman's beach from the hotel.

“will go again”

very nice fam hotel & proud of their tradition. good 3* hotel in 5* location. staff friendly and helpful.v. kind with disabled. exellent value for money in jan/feb when weather can be wet and miserable or 22 deg. food not fantastic but lots of restaurants, shops etc everything closeby.great for exploring, helps if you are good at steps & hills. difficult car parking. temperature of indoor pool is wonderful .the sound of waves on the sand as you go to sleep is fantasic.

“Excellent Venue”

Returned to the Sol e Mar for the second year running in January. Fantastic value. Excellent breakfast with wonderful view. Clean room with a bath, fridge, sea view, balcony and sky news on TV. Efficient maids. Helpful staff. A pleasant indoor pool and a hotel lift to take you from the beach to the clifftop. Great location with plenty restaurants and shops nearby. Plan to return again, possibly in winter, because the weather was delightful for the time of year - warm & sunny.

Area recommendations
Albufeira is small enough to get round on foot although a little tourist train takes you to nearby Praia da Ouro. The beach is beautiful with nice cafes at the Fisherman's beach. There are lovely views of the white-washed houses from the cliffs.
When to go
Excellent weather in January when we went - though not guaranteed.
Getting there
Bus from Faro Centre takes 1 hour 15 minutes and costs 4.40 euros.There are buses from the airport the the bus station in Faro, a 20 minute journey. The bus station in Albufeira is out of town. We got a taxi from the bus station to the Sol e Mar. It cost 6 euros. You can get a taxi from Faro airport to Albufeira for 48 euros.
Getting around
We stayed a couple of nights at the start and end of our stay in Faro at the excellent Hotel Eva right on the harbour. Faro is well worth a visit - a beautiful old town with orange trees outside the Cathedral and an interesting museum, the river (Rio Formosa), Carmo church (with an amazing chapel of skulls), attractive pedestrian streets in the centre and great sea food restaurants - try Adega Nortenha and Dos Irmaos in the centre. You can't miss them. Most amazing though are the storks. Their nests are perched on high buildings and structures throughout the town. Every time I looked I saw more of them. They and their nests are incredible. Seeing them in flight was great.
Dining
Lots of good restaurants in Albufeira with incredible tourist menus for around 9 - 10 euros per person. You get sardine pate, bread and olives, then soup, then a main course, then a dessert (fruit salad), then coffee, and a bottle of wine between two all included. O Veleiro and Taska d'Alkhaz were very good. Ruina is a restaurant selling beautiful fresh fish although as it is priced by weight, it can be expensive, e.g. sea bass was 60 euros per kilogram

“great place to stay”

VERY GOOD PLCE TO STAY GOOD VEIWS RIGHT IN THE TOWN BUT IT WAS VERY QUIET WHEN WE STAYED IN FEBRUARY.NO COMPLAINTS APART FROM DONT LEAVE FOOD IN ROOM APART FROM THE FRIDGE OR YOU WILL GET ANTS.NICE RESTERAUNT WITH SEA VEIWS AND A GOOD BRECKFAST.
