“A great stay”

What an amazing hotel! The staff, facilities and food were all excellent. Our room was lovely- lots of room and very comfy beds. Cannot fault the hotel at all. Will be going back!

“Hilton fab, less impressed with Vilamoura”

The Hilton Vilamoura is a lovely hotel. Rooms were comfortable, food excellent and service superb. The hotel has lovely pool areas, with towels provided and a good 24hr gym. I did not use the spa as it seemed very expensive. My only negative comment is that the bar drinks are extremely expensive (example 3.50E for a small coke!)

Area recommendations

The area is perfect if you are a golfer, otherwise things to see are sparse. Vilamoura marina has pretty boats but tacky bars, shops & restaurants. I was visiting for a family wedding, was occupied most days and spent much of the rest of the time enjoying the hotel facilities and food. It did not bother me too much that there was little else to do. 6 days was plenty.

“Relaxing retreat”

I wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing to celebrate my partners 40th birthday where we would feel special and could just kick back and do nothing. From the moment we checked in, we were made to feel special. The room was huge with a large balcony. The bath was enormous and had the added feature of being behind a cutain which when pulled back meant that you could relax in the bath whilst looking out at the views from the balcony. Mini bar was quite well stocked but very expensive. We found a supermarket about 10-15 minutes walk away which we used to buy nibbles and wine. The grounds and pool area of the hotel were beautiful although as it was only March many of the features around the pool such as the waterfalls were not working. As with any 5 star hotel the prices in the bar and restaurant were not the cheapest although on our first night we went for the buffet dinner which was amazing value and the food was of a very high standard. I am a vegetarian and was told that they would prepare me something as the main dishes were not surprisingly meat and fish. The breakfast was incredible with the usual breakfast items as well as pancakes and a chef on hand to cook omeletes and eggs just the way you like them Between 7.00pm-9.00pm the hotel ran a complimentary shuttle service to the marina area where you can get good food and drinks which we used most evenings. The staff were attentive, helpful and extremely approachable. Great hotel, great staff. Would definately recommend.

Area recommendations

The area around the Hilton in Vilamoura is a golfers paradise and is largely a residential area. For those who do not play golf the 7Spa in the hotel is very good value when comparing treatment prices to those at spas in the UK. If you are looking for something more lively then you may feel that you could benefit from having a car although we found the 15-20 walk down to the marina was not a real inconvenience. The beaches by the marina looked nice and I imagine would be packed in the summer months. Nice and sandy. If you are planning to visit from May onwards then the location of the hotel would be ideal as you can easily get to the marina for the lively bars and restaurants whilst knowing that you were going back to a nice quiet hotel.

Getting around

Easy to walk to the marina and beaches. The complimenetary shuttle service which the hotel operated in the evening was very useful. If you want ot explore further a filed then a car would probably be very useful.

Dining

Excellent breakfast buffet which could result in you easily piling on the weight! Buffet dineers represented good value when looking at the prices in the other hotel restaurant. That said I imagine the prices compare very favourably with tose of a 5 star hotel in the UK, especially in London. Good variety of restaurants in the Marina area, although a couple of places are obviously targetting the English Breakfast brigade. If you avoid the actual marina front and walk along the side streets there are plenty of smaller restaurants offering great value for money and great food.

“Hilton at its very very best”

Ok, so were very lucky to pick up rooms at this 5 star Hotel that we did for the price we paid. Checked in with minimal fuss, and first class explanation of hotel, amenities and offers. Our car was then parked for us, no cost. We had 2 rooms identical in every way, 1 for my daughters and 1 for my wife and I. Not a bit of dirt anywhere, cleaning of the highest standard, comfort of the highest standard and probably one of the best bathrooms in a hotel I have come across. The double shower was to die for! Our room rate also included breakfast. Oh my, nobody can seriously quibble about the offerings. Hot, cold, pastries.....I could go on, but why. You cannot fault it (well, my family couldn't). Every staff member we came across were extremely pleasant. Oh and the Seven seas spa.....Even if you dont have a treatment, spend the €10 to use the various pools and sauna's and steam rooms. Brilliant value. If you get a chance, stay here. Its more than worth it.

“A high quality Hilton”

Impeccable service, brand new hotel but slightly expensive bar food and drinks (although not uncommon!). I would highly recommend this hotel for a golfing holiday, as it sits close to several courses, although it was quite far from courses such as Quinta do lago. Essentially it was a first class example of a Hilton hotel.

Area recommendations

Vilamoura Marina but avoid alba fura as it was like an allo allo town.

Nightlife

Vilamoura and alba fura are dead in November. Avoid these areas if you want busy nightlife at this time of year.

Local restaurants [advice and tables booked by excellent Concierge] Do not miss out on genuine Portuguese Restaurant " A Muralha" in Loule. -- terrific cuisine at very rreasonable prices -- also free transport each way -- Meals cosy abot 60E for 2 including wine!!

“Excellent Hotel in all respects”

This hotel excelled in all aspects of service, quality and facilities. The breakfast buffet was excellent but we did not eat other meals at the hotel or drink in the bars as prices were higher than we wished to pay. However the hotel was situated within an easy and pleasant walk of the local marina and we walked there and back to have dinner every evening in one of the many pleasant and reasonably-priced restaurants. For the less fit, there is a good local taxi service, again at reasonable prices. The hotel ran a free mini-bus service at hourly intervals everyday to the lovely beaches where we could buy drinks and lunches. My only regret about the holiday is that we did not book for longer!

Area recommendations

Vilamoura - its beaches which, in September, were peaceful and picturesque and lovely for swimming/paddling. The Marina area for restaurants and bars which offered a lively, but not rowdy, atmosphere for dining in the evening. The residential areas around were safe and quiet and the whole area was clean and well set-up for keep-fit activities such as walking, running, cycling and working-out.

“Perfect family hotel”

I cannot praise this hotel enough, the service is excellent, friendly and attentive. The maintenance and cleanliness was first class. Our rate included the breakfast which is very varied and good quality. We also had the buffet dinner on Portugese night which was fab, the shellfish "show cooking" was a winner. Bar prices in the hotel were, as you would expect, not cheap but this is true of any decent hotel. It was reassuring to see the hotel was used by Potugese families, locals generally know best! The hotel was very geared towards families, we were travelling as a couple this year but as expectant parents we've already got plans to return with the nipper. And as an expectant mother the staff were especially helpful and considerate towards me, but then that seems to be the Portgese way, family and children are top priority!

When to go

Our holiday was the first week of the new school term so it was mostly couples and young families. I can imagine it gets very busy during peak season though.

Getting around

Other reviews have said this hotel was quite remote but to be honest that is what we liked about it. Hotels in the marina seem noisy and crammed in whereas the Hilton is placed in a residential area so nice and quiet. There are shops within walking distance and you are surrounded by golf courses. The hotel provide a regular transfer bus to the marina but this finishes at 9pm so we took taxis back, this never cost more than 5 euros but the taxi rank at the marina was very busy so always ask your waiter if the restaurant can book a taxi for you. There is a car hire desk in the hotel lobby, I'm sure you could find a better rate if you shopped around online or in town but this is certainly a convenient way to hire a car. The cars are in the underground car park at the hotel and if you hire through them you don't have to pay a nightly parking fee which you would if you hire from on outside company.

Dining

Notable restaurants in the marina were the steak restaurant Prime - long lines outside by 8:30pm but there is a good reason people will queue. However pop down there in the afternoon and you can book a table. Also further back from the marina was a little square with a number of restaurants slightly cheaper priced (presumably as they did not have marina rent to pay!) which were very nice. Also a note about Portugese cooking, the chefs add salt to everything in vast quantities so if you are trying to be good and watch your salt intake then emphasise this to your waiter. Alternaitvely, enjoy it, you're on holiday!

Outdoors or beach

The transfer bus to the beach was handy and the beach area specifically for hotel guests was nice, loungers and towels are provided and there is a little club house for snacks and drinks.
