This hotel is just wonderful. The staff are amazing and will do anything to help you with everything you need. I had a studio room with a kitchen, it is very well equipped and even the freezer works which is a huge plus in a hotel! The bed is the comfiest I've slept in a long time.
The area this hotel is in is beautiful, with a little shop just down the road with all the basics and more. The pool area and the general hotel are always clean and tidy. the pool looking out over the river is stunning.
This is the 2nd time I've stayed here and each time I just want to come back!
Hotel is at the top of `The Strip` far enough away from the bars to be quiet but near enough for when you want to join in ! Bit of a trek to the beach - we did walk but some may find it too far on foot, however taxi was only 5.00Euro so not too bad. Hotel staff friendly and food was great !
Would go back again - but would probably stay in the Old Town area next time as its nearer the beach but Hotel was Great !
I was a bit dubious about the Sau Rafael Suite Hotel after I had read all the reviews but was pleasantly surprised on arrival. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and even though we had not specified a pool or sea view - we had both.
The buffet was not huge, then again it is not a big hotel, but it was of good quality and there was sufficient variety. The a la carte restaurant was very nice, although the service could have been slightly better in there. The afternoon snacks were excellent and provided something for everyone from sandwiches, salads, fruit, pastries, burger or hot dog.
My husband and I found the staff helpful and courteous.
I would have to say that I don't think it merits quite the 5 stars but definitely a 4 star. It is a shame they cannot provide wifi in the rooms and is just available in the public areas.
In a previous review someone had posted a photo of rusty bathroom door and floor - this worried me but 3 days into the holiday we discovered there was an outside toilet inbetween the two pools ...... so please ignore. Of course, having an iron door outside may get rusty. That was misleading.
I would definitely recommend it for a short break/holiday. There isn't much to do around the area so if you are looking for something lively then this is not for you but if you want a relaxing break go for it.
The entertainment was OK - for a small sized hotel, it was more than enough.
We stayed in Portugal for 4 nights and this hotel was just perfect. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and was even better since it was included in the price of the room! Bed was a little hard but the room itself was very clean and had brilliant air conditioning. We had a large balcony too which we ate dinner on twice! Staff were very helpful but the cleaning staff came into our room every day even though we had the Do Not Disturb sign up which was a bit annoying but other than that we had a wonderful stay!

On the whole a good hotel. It's a 5 star resort but just to mention that the outside pool was very cold (indoor pool was warm though), breakfast was fine but not much variety day in day out & the beauty spa was very limited. The hotel is up a very steep hill quite a way out above Carvoeiro. There is a shuttle bus into the village which returns about 6pm at the latest. A hire car offers the best flexibility. We would recommend a visit to Silves (Moorish castle), Monchique (day trip to mountains), beaches eg Dona Ana, Albufeira and the lighthouse near Sagres (best sunset). Our 12 yr old liked Slide n Splash waterpark but thought Zoo Marine would be better for younger kids (not cheap €29). We were disappointed with Portimao as the old BBQ sardine restaurants have been moved to a not v nice area. We thought the restaurants in Carvoeiro were a bit pricey & preferred nearby Ferragudo. Beware the midges! We had an early morning return flight & the hotel kindly made us a packed lunch to take to the airport. Any request was always promptly dealt with.
This was our second visit to the Pestana Alvor Praia and we were not disappointed. We had a beautiful sea view room on the 5th floor.
The hotel was clean, comfortable and all the staff were welcoming and friendly.
We were B & B so cannot comment on the evening buffet but you could not fault the breakfast - everything and more than you could possibly ever want.
This is a very friendly hotel. The staff, including the manager were all very helpful and remembered us from our previous visit. We found the shuttle bus to Quartiera & Vilamoura to be very handy. The Chef, as usual, really gave us large portions of food, The only negative was the weather -could have been better as we had quite a bit of rain. However, nobody has control over the weather.
The hotel location may be better suited to Seniors and golfers as young people may prefer to be nearer to night clubs.
We booked a late holiday to Vilamoura arriving 9th of November so resort was quiet but pleasant. The hotel Dom Pedro Golf was really really good! Staff were courteous, friendly and efficient, we had a room on the seventh floor with great views. The room was spacious, had a king bed, flat screen tv, mini bar everything you could need. The room was cleaned every day and never even saw the cleaning staff!
