The hotel fit in very nicely with the historic character of the district. It was traditional in the best sense of the word. The sitting room and common areas were very pleasant and the staff was uniformly excellent. The complimentary coffee in the morning and wine in the evening were also an added bonus.
I was in town for the Army Ten Miler. Check-in was very easy and the staff was so helpful in getting me a taxi right away so I could make it to the expo on time to get my race bib, as I was running late. The room was larger than expected. I liked the separate living and sleeping spaces so I didn't have to eat either in bed or at the desk when I brought food back to the room. Loved that there were separate TVs in the living and sleeping spaces and that the bathroom opened into each. The refrigerator was very effective at keeping my drinks cold - I did have to turn it to the coldest setting, but a soda put in on Saturday evening was still cold on Monday morning. The restaurant was also very convenient. I was able to walk downstairs and get food to go pretty quickly. Overall, a great experience!
I travelled with my elder parents and was concerned, mostly because the hotel was a basic hotel. I called prior to departure just to ensure I wasn't making a bad judgment call. I spoke to Debie who was WONDERFUL. She said, you're here for a long time (9 days) and she upgraded us to a room with a microwave and refrigerator. Red Roof was terrific - other than no breakfast options, and having to go to the reception area for coffee, as my mother said - nothing was missing. The staff was helpful and more importantly, the rooms were clean. If anyone has mobility issues, they have an elevator for the upper floors as well.
We chose Alexandria, Virginia - and it proved to be the right choice. The hotel is on the highway but incredibly close to the Metro and provided my needs beyond clean and comfortable: free parking and free internet.
