Great hotel. Loud fire alarm
The hotel location was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable. There were issues with the fire alarm on our last night there and we were awakened by more than 20 minutes of sirens and announcements after midnight which was not pleasant.

Poor customer service! Was told I can have free early check in at 12noon whatever room they have available and specified I need a room with city view. Went out and came back late 5pm and only 2 options are there. One with ongoing construction and accessiblity room. Chose the latter but change my mind if I can have a room in the new bldg . I waited for more than an hour . Had I not call the reception, I will be waiting forever. Clogged shower drainage, flooding the bathroom floor-ask housekeeping to check to find oit there were tons of hair down there even she was surprised to see it-“looks like a rat” quoting her. Facial tissue empty, do not refill coffee/tea and did not wash the glassses used! Need to re orient staffs and interns-inform guests about housekeeping policy(not everyday) and customer service. I was surprised that when I came back late the room was not made and clean and refreshed. In all my 3 day stay I only hot 1 housekeeping service. (8/10-13) Hotel is nice by the waterfront, breakfast buffet good spread but same everyday. A nice guy on checked out day was nice to offer a free coffee while waiting for my cab at 6am. He was the only nice one there-8/13.

Nice hotel. Beds comfortable. Staff friendly. Convenient location. Has a nice outside patio on the water, bar and restaurant. Also, parking right at hotel - you pay for it, but convenient.

The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, quiet and clean. We had a late night ferry departure and the hotel was gracious enough to allow us to use their lounge area for an extended period. And, their breakfast buffet was great as well.

We loved this hotel and Alesund! Its got a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great decor. I use a mobility scooter and we were given a very big room that made it easy to drive and park my scooter in without it being a trip hazard for myself and my blind partner. The wet room was great with a shower chair. The view from the hotel bar and restaurant is absolutely incredible across the river to the stunning snow topped mountains and the food is great too. Delicious and varied breakfast buffet and excellent evening meals. Its five mins walk to the stunning art noveau centre of Alesund and the buses and dock where we got the boat for our Geiranger Fjord day trip. A few small things that could be changed : Could have done with a little platform for my toiletries in the shower as nowhere to put them which was difficult and some more wardrobe space as it was very minimal. Also there was no room service which would have helpful esp as both have disabilities. Overall a fabulous experience and would highly recommend if going to beautiful Alesund!

Good location expensive parking
The hotel was in a good location just a few minutes walk from the centre. Parking was expensive at 250 NOK a day and no concession at the hotel. Madeleine on reception was a real star ⭐️

The back patio with the view of the water is peaceful and lovely. They have done a nice job of combining an old building with a new addition. There are lots of seating areas around the hotel.

Be careful when selecting room
Disappointed about the room, whose windows face inside the stairwell of the hotel (no windows facing outside the building). Part of the window is not transparent, but the top part of the window is transparent and can be seen through by people walking in the main staircase outside, unless curtains are closed. We asked the staff about this, but they declined to give us a new room, as the room information is stated when booking. The part about people being able to view inside the room is, however, not stated. Only later did I see that it is indeed stated that the "room has no windows", but in a very inconspicuous way on the hotels.com website. My take-away from this is to always look very carefully at room description when booking from now on.

Disappointed the restaurant was closed.
The hotel should notify guests that the hotel restaurant will be closed from 31 Dec - 2 Jan. Very few restaurants were open in Alesund during this time as well. For the price of the hotel, I would expect there to be a fully functioning restaurant even during the holidays.

Overall a comfortable stay. The breakfast was great, the room was spacious and comfortable. The location, while just a few minutes walk from the town Centre, was convenient. Friendly reception staff. One small issue was, as we stayed on Xmas and Boxing days, the town was closed up with no restaurants or anything open. We expected this and thus booked this hotel as it had a restaurant attached. Unfortunately, even though the hotel was open , the restaurant was not. So it appears someone had not thought this through very well. Your guests are still going to need to eat, even though it is Xmas, given that everyone new that the entire town was going to be closed and guests were not going to be able to eat elsewhere. If the hotel is open, so should all the Hotel facilities. That’s the point of Hospitality!! Having had my whinge, we did enjoy our stay and did find after much searching, an enterprising restauranteur who was open, thus we did not starve.

Very uncomfortable stay - weird hotel.
This was the most expensive and the worst hotel during our stay in Norway. It was a very weird hotel. The hotel is on the water but there seems to be two parts: new and old buildings. the new section is on the waterfront but the rooms seem to be on the old section and they have no water view. Next, they have a terrible system where the fridge and everything else is controlled by one main switch. If you turn off the switch, you lose the fridge. Now the worst part that really made me sleep deprived: we have two children. They slept in the living room. The problem is the bathroom is shared AND they designed the bathroom such that the wall has a frosty glass section on the side of the master bedroom. That means each time the kids went to the bathroom at night, it was as if the lights were being turned on in my bedroom. So instead we had to navigate with cell phone lights just to use the bathroom so no one is disturbed in the master bedroom. Worse: the bathroom did NOT have its own switch, it’s motion detected but does not Turn off for about 5 minutes after the person exits it, so you have no control over the bothersome light it gives out at night. We had to turn off the main. It was terrible. The room fridge wasn’t really working, neither was the room phone. breakfast on the weekend starts at 8pm which is way too late so they make you a ham and cheese sandwich on request. That’s a huge waste of money for the breakfast that you pay as part of your Rez. My worst hotel stay EVER.

However, the rooms have different styles and design. Like some of the bathrooms are designed with frosted glasses. We will check the sensor and timer in your room. The window of my room was in an inner wall, there was a corridor outside. That corridor had windows facing the harbor. It was a peculiar layout. I was never sure if there would be people passing bye looking in to my room... Also, I lacked body lotion in my room. And the shower wall leaked water on the floor outside. I guess I thought I had paid so much for the room that I expected something better. Then again, I’m not sure I’m up to date with Norwegian prices. That was a long story about small details. I had a great stay in Ålesund overall. My son and his family came one day after me and they stayed at the other Quality hotel. We chose different hotels because for them that hotel was cheaper, and for me this hotel was cheaper. Only 12 minutes walk in between.
