Best Western used to be a solid value in hotels. No frills, but even and good quality hotel-to-hotel and reasonable price for its location. Over the years we would purposely design our frequent road trips to stay in one of the chain's hotels, as we could count on clean facilities, pleasant staff, hearty breakfast, etc. The BW hotel in Albany seems to be going against that grain... Have the BW HQ checked it out recently? Our room's carpet was filthy, with large stains and evident years of wear. The bathroom have seen better days (who would put a drop ceiling over the shower, only to have it sag due to water absorption), with fixtures not working properly or in very poor condition (could barely see anything with the lighting installed, the toilet kept refilling itself every 15 min or so, the faucet was difficult to operate, the shower head contraption isn't very comfortable although it looks interesting ;-). The restaurant's floor was sticky (dirt redistributed with mopping?). Although the usual breakfast fare was there (omelette, sausages, hash potatoes), they ran out of all baked goods (bread, bagels, muffins, etc.) and when asked, we were told that their toaster broke down... Hotel with ~200 rooms has one toaster and we were not even asking for it (wanted bread). Final word: not recommended.
