“nice practical hotel”

I stayed there with my husband and 3 year old child on a weekend that rained. This hotel has much to offer considering its reasonable rates. It is very clean and tidy, and I had no hesitations about letting my kid romp on the floors in the bathroom or sleeping area. It is well appointed and has an elegant understated ambiance. I think there were recent renovations, because many things looked new (carpeting, wall paper, headboards). The restaurant is comfortable and has an understated elegance like the rest of the hotel. The lounge had a cozy atmosphere and was setup to have live music. The food at the restaurant and lounge is good but overpriced for what it is. The coffee was unexpectedly good. Service at the front desk, restaurant and lounge is friendly and efficient but expect the weekends to have minimal staffing (probably because government doesn't work on weekends). Because the staff is small on weekends, expect vacuum cleaner noises around breakfast. Arrival on days that are raining is not fun. We parked right in front of the hotel entrance, but there is no covered area and no attached parking garage. There is valet service, but on days with minimal staffing the valet might be off duty. We were lucky that a nice gentleman came out to help us with the luggage while we tried to figure out who should carry the kid and who should hold the umbrella.

“Beautiful Hotel”

74 is located in an old downtown Albany building but has been redone with taste. The hotel is in walking distance of the capital and wonderful restaurants. Please be aware that some rooms on the third and fourth floors do not have windows that look outside.

“A good and central hotel in Albany”

If youre looking for a good, and clean hotel in central Albany this is a good choice. Short distance to shops,attractions and nightlife.

“Great location - good food - quiet rooms”

The location is convenient, easy walk to museum, city center, entertainment and transportation. We liked the restaurant. Room service, valet, front desk personel, were intermittent, possibly due to the fact there were not very many guests even though it was spring break.

new and my room waqs very large and well appointed, but no minibar. Valet parking only. not far to airport 15 mins.

“Great Hotel”

Hotel was excellent - beds very comfortable and luxurious. Only disappointment was the valet service. We were told to call down the following morning for our car. Despite calling, we had to wait as the message had not been relayed. This was more than a slight inconvenience as we were in a hurry and they only had one person on duty and a number of people checked out at the same time.

“Convenient but some issues with 74 State”

I selected this hotel because of the area. I was in Albany for the first time for business. The hotel is quite nice but has issues. After checking in when I arrived on the floor of my room the first thing I saw near the elevator in the hallway was a live insect crawling on the carpet. This was not a pleasant welcome to the hotel. My room was spacious and relatively clean, with the exception of a few strands of hair (apparently from the housekeeper) on the beds. Also, the carpet had numerous of stains (black spots) on it. The bathroom was spacious and clean and the extra towels that I requested were in the room when I arrived. My major issue was that my hotel room key had to be reactivated on four different occasions during my stay. I was told it was because the key was close to my cell phone which caused that to happen. However, after the initial time I made sure that the key was not anywhere near my cell phone but it still happened. The hotel staff were nice about it but this was a major inconvenience. In addition, the hotel staff were great about ordering cab service for me during my stay. Overall, if my travels take me back to Albany I will consider staying at this hotel again.

Completely average hotel priced like a luxury hotel. Not worth the money.

“Good Place to Stop”

We were passing through on way to Montreal. Was a good place for a stopover with really comfortable beds which was great. Avoid the hotel restaurant though - food was below average.

“Nice but not exceptional”

Room was clean and beds comfortable. Scarcity of adequate reading lighting, and a fan would have helped the comfort level.
