The resort is very nice. We loved that at the Royal we did not need to have towel cards and rec'd top shelf liquor. We also loved that use of the spa facilitates were included. They have an amazing spa with co-ed steam rooms and saunas, etc..We really didn't like how isolated the location is and how far we had to walk to get to the beach, spa, etc...they do have carts available and we usually didn't have to wait too long; only a couple times. The food was mediocre. The desserts were very limited and not good. The rooms are very nice, loved the mini bars and tubs on the balconies. Our main complaint is that the pools are not heated and they were extremely cold!! The Royal pool was boring to us, there is no music and it's very small so we spent most of our time at the Riviera pool or the beach. The staff at this resort are amazing and made our stay very memorable!

My 3 year old son and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Palladium White Sands resort as we attended my friend's wedding there. It was nice to be able to use the Palladium's different (5 total, but one was for adults only) resorts' amenities and restaurants. They're all within walking distance and there's usually a train or cart out in the lobby ready to shuttle you from place to place. The rooms were nice and clean. The pools were great and loved the beaches! My son enjoyed their kid's pool (had 5 big slides, etc.) on the Colonial resort side. The restaurant food were very good. But most of all, my girlfriend's wedding was a success and everyone loved it and the place! The coordinators did a great job and we had a wonderful memorable day and night. We hope to go back again someday soon!
Hotel was excellent. Grounds are lush and clean with great walking paths. Room was large and clean. Good entertainment with theater shows and live music in lobbies. Meals were good with plenty of variety and locations.
Setbacks: 1) property is large so need to use the transportation within the property at times. The wait is too long so can be frustrating. 2) Not enough wait staff to provide drinks at pools nor at the beach. In fact, never had anyone come by while we were at the beach at The Colonia. Long wait at bar. 3) Although most staff were friendly, there were a few that had an attitude which bordered on rudeness.
We had a great time at Grand Palladium White Sands. We travelled with an infant and a toddler. We stayed in White Sands villa 52 which is right by the train stops to go to different lobbies. Walking to both lobbies are also not bad even with the kids. We spent most of our time at the beach close to Colonial because it's more accessible from the buffet restaurants compared to the beach close to White Sands. The beach at Colonial is not rocky. We snorkeled at the White Sands beach but did not see that many fish. We really enjoyed swimming at the Colonial, clean water and little waves even on a red flag day.
Rooms: junior suites are big, clean and new, 2 doubles and 1 sofa bed, great for families. Towel art was great. We got one room on the bottom floor and one on the top floor. The bottom floor is great because of the strollers, but there were a lot of mosquito hanging out at the door so we had to get in and out quickly and still got mosquito in the room at night.
Service: mini bar did not get refilled when we checked in, there were opened bottles. Called the housekeeper and got promised that it will be refilled but it never did. Got room serviced the next day, and still no refill even though we left tip. We eventually wrote a note and it was refilled when the room was serviced again.
Staff: friendly and nice. Activities were fun and great because of the staff.
Food: very good compared to other all inclusive we've been to.
Checking in and checking out very slow. On our first day we arrived at 3:00 and room still not available so had to go to one of the restaurants and wait. Hard after traveling all day. Hotel really pushed early check out (settle bill prior to actual departure), but you still had to check in again at desk when you were actually leaving to have band cut off and turn in key and get a receipt that you did so--not quite sure what benefit there was to it. Snorkeling from the beach was nice. A lot of coral damaged from storms, but still saw a lot of fish. It was very nice to just be able to relax on a chair and then head out and snorkel. Food was certainly fine when you consider how much has to be made to feed everyone. Staff was very curteous. Coffee bars very nice. Rooms a little outdated particularly the bathrooms, but all adequate.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel staff was very friendly and easy to get along with. Rooms and food were average, but we could take the car and drive for 10 minutes and find other places to eat. I would stay here again.
The property had exactly what I wanted...proximity to beautiful Akumal Bay. We ended up in a 1 BR condo with a balcony on the bay. Fantastic view.
We originally booked a pool view room, but requested the upgrade upon arrival. Noel(sp?) was very welcoming and after some cajoling he was able to find us a Sea View room for the night.
Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
