“Citadines Near Geneva”

Excellent location - only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop (Brunette stop) where there is a regular bus service to the Palexpo Convention Centre (F,Y), Geneva Airport (Y), and Central Geneva (F). The staff were very cordial and helpful. Hotel room (studio) needed a facelift, but was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. It would be useful to have walking directions from the bus stop as it is in a quiet area and there may be be no-one around to give directions. Cheaper than staying in Geneva.

“Why pay Geneva prices??”

I have stayed at this hotel for the last 5 years when working a tradeshow in Geneva. The staff are wonderful and very accomodating as I had to check in 2 days early and check out 1 day later and they made it happen. The rooms are basic, but clean and half the price of staying by the convention center. There is a grocery store around the corner and is close to the city center. There is a laundry in the basement for those of us on extended travel. My only complaint is the internet is dismal, maybe 1/2 step above dial up. I actually had to go to starbucks to down load a file for work as I did not have the 2 hours to wait to download a 300 meg file. If you have not stayed at a Citadines....think Extended Syat Deluxe.

“Good value, no frills.”

The hotel is located a short 5-10 minute drive from the airport; you have to cross over into France, but it was a non-event each of the 10+ times we crossed. The hotel consists of 4 or 5 separate apartment buildings each with about 20 units; ours was a 1 bedroom with kitchen. Free wired internet in the room and free wireless in the lobby. Plenty of parking right outside the room. Carrefour and Dia supermarkets within a couple of minutes. Easy access to the motorway. Nothing fancy, but totally sufficient.

Area recommendations
There are plenty of places to stay and visit in the Lake Geneva area and the motorway makes it easy to navigate. The sights and cities along the lakes edge are beautiful and the mountain views are over the top.

“Nice but...”

The room was well furnished and clean and the staff friendly and helpful. It would be a good place for a family to stay -- close to the airport and the center of Ferney and short (20 minutes or so -- though not cheap) taxi ride or drive into Geneva. The main negative was that the internet connection only worked the 1st day. I was assured every day after that that it would be fixed, but each day I'd return and it would not be working nor was there ever any explanation given as to why it had not been, or could not be, fixed. As a business traveler, this was a real problem.

“Soul-less hotel - a sad experience”

This hotel's only appeal is that it is close to Geneva airport but given that it in on the French side, it is much cheaper than Swiss hotels. I stayed there in January 2011 because all the hotels in Geneva were booked up because of a big conference. The reception of the hotel is closed from 10pm to 7am. If you arrive after 10pm you have to get a code to open a safe which will hold the key to your room. Then you need to find your room which is in one of 3 separate buildings. The room I stayed in was very depressing. The bed wasn't a real bed but a sofa bed which was very uncomfortable. The aircon was very noisy and there was no switch in the room to turn it off. The only way to stop the noise was to open a window which automatically turns off the aircon. Obviously that is not ideal in January... Basically, only go there if you have no other choice.

“Don't miss out on Ferney!”

We had booked to visit Geneva, which is, of course, in Switzerland, whil Ferney-Voltaire is actually (just) in France. Foolishly, we had failed to bring euros as well as Swiss francs. What a discovery; Geneva is good (20 minutes by bus), but Ferney is a wonderful place to spend a few days. the hotel is little more than functional, but the room was comfortable (especially the sofa bed), clean and very well equipped. Restaurant prices are expensive, so for the most part we cooked in our room. There are two nearby Carrefours and some lovely bars.

Area recommendations
Geneva's old town is obviously worth a visit, but do the town-trail of Ferney, visit Voltaire's chateau and catch a bus to Gex. Have a quiet drink at Le Patriarche.
Getting there
This was a bit of a pain, as we flew from Manchester and had to go via Zurich.
Getting around
We did a lot of walking, but there are good /regular bus services to Geneva, Gex and to the airport.
Shopping
The shops in Geneva are great. Ferney has all you need, however; the market is superb, there are great cheese shops and the two branches of Carrefour (much better than british supermarkets!) are a few minutes walk from the hotel.
Dining
A lot of places in Ferney were closed for annual holiday, but in any case prices are steep compared to the UK and largely self-catered. A relatively cheap venue in Geneva is the top floor of the department store Manor, which has a huge buffet-style selection of well-cooked dishes.

“perfect place to arrive after long trip”

located at a very quiet zone with some nice restaurants and supermarket, perfect to expend some days after a long trip, quiet and friendly, the hotel is perfect, free parking, nice internet, good tv, the bed could be better

“Excellent low cost accommodation”

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Close to the centre of the charming small town of Ferney Voltaire, ten minutes from Geneva airport, yet peaceful and quiet. My only complaint was a high pitched droning sound coming from a piece of equipment that was going all night. I didn't disturb me too much, but if I'd been there any longer I'd have had to locate it and get it fixed. I was in the main building, so this might not apply to the annex building. There is no night reception, so getting anything out of hours isn't possible. Breakfast is a bit spartan, but adequate. I would probably go out if I stayed another time, because the cafes in the town are open and probably serve a better selection.

“Not exactly what I expected”

First of all, I have to say that the staff at this hotel were some of the best we've ever encountered (and we travel A LOT). However, I was very disappointed in the room. It was in very rough shape and in need of maintenance. The toilet leaked, the carpets were pretty gross and the dishwasher did not work. The wall between the bedroom and the main area was paper thin so it didn't work well for getting the kids to sleep. The layout was also incredibly weird (ie: the toilet and sink are at opposite ends of the room). The location was excellent if you're planning to spend time in Switzerland. There were also many shops and restaurants within walking distance. Public transportation into Geneva was very easy to get to and use. If you don't care what the room is like and the location is of most importance to you, then I would recommend this hotel. If you are traveling with small children, I don't think I would recommend it.
