“Overpriced based on former glory”

Agra is what it is - like most tourists you go there for the Taj Mahal and the other atractions, not for the ambience of the town. The Mansingh Palace is very conveniently located to the Taj, hop on a tuk-tuk or a rickshaw and you're there in a few minutes. The hotel itself is old, tired, a bit grubby, average service by staff who don't seem to care much, food is average, and my so called deluxe room was smelly, poorly maintained, safe not working, electrical connections falling out of the wall and the aircon was binary - i.e. arctic or not at all. For half their rack rate you get what you pay for, for the rack rate I paid, I am sure there are better options around.

When to go
If you go to Agra for the Taj Mahal, go Monday to Thursday if you can, Friday it's closed to tourists, and weekends is very, very busy.

“Pleasant Stay”

Well maintained hotel. Comfortable and clean room. Stayed one night near the Taj. Very nice breakfast buffet. Friendly & helpful service. Regardless of where you stay in this tourist zone, you will hear the "beep beep" of vehicle horns 24 hours a-day. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs.

Area recommendations
Besides the Taj Mahal, see the Red Fort. Because of limited time, I used a tour guide with a car. He took me to the park north of the river, where the foundations of the black Taj (never completed) are. Be prepared for air pollution/ smog that reduces visibility.

“Good value hotel in Agra”

Well-situated, moderately priced hotel. Signs of aging, but maintained well. Very convenient to sights in Agra. Desk staff was a bit aloof, but the rest of the staff was very friendly.
