“Friendly and relaxing”

This hotel is well kept, clean and tidy. All the staff are excellent, the young ladies on the egg station at breakfast are wonderful. If your only on B&B then the evening meals in the restaurant are expensive, but the lunch menu & room service are competitive to local restaurants. If I was to visit Agadir again I would stay at the Timouly Hotel

“Excellent choise”

“The staff is what elevates the experience to the next level!”

We unfortunately had to cut our trip short and only stayed there one night, but the staff at the hotel, and particularly the manager Zarah were absolutely wonderful. They were extremely friendly and always ready to help. We are planning on going back in the future and would definitely stay here again.

“Comfortable hotel with friendly staff ... but ....”

Comfortable hotel with friendly staff ... but .... hotel food and drinks were really expensive, and quality was a bit average. We found the local supermarket and stocked up there. Culture for tipping can start to feel intrusive, and make sure you have plently of small change otherwise you'll be ripped off by taxis etc However, the hotel was comfortable and very clean. The children loved the pool and the (included) breakfast was lovely, fresh and had good variety. Finally - expect to spend 1.5 hours trying to make it through passport control, both entering and leaving the country - patience required!

“Deserving of it's excellent reputation”

We chose the Timoulay as it has excellent reviews on various forums. After our stay, we can thoroughly recommend this hotel. It's not so much the rooms (immaculate); the food (amazing, fresh, so much choice) or the location (in the quiet, posher end of town) that make it so good - it's the staff. The reception staff, concierge, room maid, cleaners, chefs, managers, waiters and waitresses all are just lovely (particularly Fatima in the Spa and Jawad in the restaurant - thankyou). They cannot do enough for you and we felt like royalty, Our toddler son was admired every day by staff (he has blonde hair and fair skin - a rarity in this Islamic country!) and given free ice-cream, strawberries, cakes...! We could not find (we tried!) a spot of dirt or dust anywhere. Our son is partial to wearing just socks and usually they are filthy at the end of the day, but not at the Timoulay. Clean as a whistle. I experienced the Morroccan 'hammam' spa treatment in the hotel's spa - it was rather unusual but enjoyable and my skin remained clear for the week afterwards. Yes, you will find cheaper spas, bars and restaurants up town - but this is 5* - and a snip at that. We paid £65 per room per night for B+B in January on an Expedia special rate. An absolute steal. There are not many British guests at the hotel - this is a place for upmarket French tourists - but everyone spoke perfect English and even helped me improve my French. We'll be back!

Area recommendations

The neighbouring coastal towns of Aourir and Tagazhout are much more authentically Morroccan and very lively places to people-watch. Much cheaper than the actual resort of Agadir. Tagazhout is the surfer's hangout so expect gap-year students and hippies - but at prices as cheap as £5 for tuition, board and wetsuit hire for a whole morning's surfing, join in and enjoy! In Agadir itself, the 'Uniprix' fixed-price market should be compulsory on day 1 of your holiday, to give you a rough indication of the 'correct' prices. This will give you bartering power later on in the Souk where the stallholders will take one look at your pale English skin and charge you 4 times the local price. Learn some basic French and your chances of haggling a bargain get better.

When to go

Temperatures in January are a healthy 26-28 deg daytime and 18-20 deg evenings and mornings. The beaches are deserted, the hotel quiet and the restaurants desperate for custom so better prices.

Getting around

The taxi of choice in Morrocco appears to be a white Mercedes E-Class, circa 1990, and they are reasonable. Expect around £12 for a half-hour journey. Locally in Agadir, the bright orange 'Petit Taxi' cabs charge 150 dirhams (£1.20 ish) for any local journey, then a bit more at night. Be warned - there doesn't seem to be any compulsory MOT test in Morrocco - we regularly saw van doors held together with tape, cars without bumpers, 8 people in the back of one taxi, and as for seatbelts and carseats for children - forget it!

What to pack

Ladies, take a loose shawl or kaftan to cover your shoulders in rural areas - in this Islamic state, women with bare shoulders are seen as prostitutes! Headscarves are not at all compulsory but you may feel more comfortable wearing one, particularly in the local souk as a white woman without a headscarf stuck out like a sore thumb. Our guide assurred me that as a tourist, no-one expects you to wear one though.

“Little Gem”

Just returned back from this hotel. I travelled with my partner and four month old daughter. Hotel was great, staff exceptional, friendly and within reach of all amenities in Agadir. I would return to this hotel if we were to go again, I would say that although it was perfect for us I am not sure it is suitable for families with older children as they do not have activities for older children. As this was not case for us it was perfect!!!
