“5* hotel, great if you just want a sunny break”

If what you are looking for is a relaxing break in the sun in a top quality hotel then this is a great choice. The hotel is away from the main building site that is Abu Dhabi city, it is on a waterfront with a beach and has a choice of pools. The hotel has a good range of facilities and restaurants, albeit the specialist restaurants are not cheap. If you do want to go into the city to go shopping or eat at other restaurants then it is not too far and taxis are cheap.

“Great hotel but some minor niggles”

This is a lovely hotel, modern, fresh and clean as you would expect, plus a reasonable range of facilities, shops and restaurants next door. Just a few minor details stop it from being full 5* review in my view. Location is good for the airport and exhibition centre, but a bit of a trek into town although thereb is a courtesy bus. Don't get the hotel car to collect you from the airport as it is 10 times the cab fare and there are plenty of good cabs. Great spa and gym; nice pools - all 4ft deep so safe for less able swimmers and wonderfully clean water - and lovely beach with sea swimming area. No watersports though. A wide range of restaurants in the hotel and at the adjacent mall just a few minutes stroll away (or via free boat ride). Staff were generally very attentive although patchy around the pool. Others have mentioned the free wifi niggle that requires you to 'agree' every time you switch on; and the occasional military plane overhead. Generally lovely stay, slightly pricey, nice spot, great for the exhibition hall or Mussafah but not for town.

Area recommendations

If shopping or town meetings feature highly on your to-do list, the old Meridien and Beach Hotels might be better options.

“Shangri-la Hotel is an icon of high quality”

This hotel although is about 20 km from Abu Dhabi city center but is by itself provide the more than what you can expect. However, you need to rent a car for easy transportation from and to the city

“Abu Dhabi's best Hotel”

I went with my family including 4 children. When we landed we were picked up via their limo service from the airport. The Hotel is 15 minutes drive from the airport. This Hotel is worth every penny you pay for. The rooms are very nice and clean. The service is 1st class. For business people their have a desk and free internet connection. Their have souk next door and you can go via boat. Their also have free shuttle service to the malls 4 trips a day. The swimming pool is good with kids pool next to it and a life guard at all times. They also had a kids club.

Take advantage of free shuttle service to the malls, will save good few pounds in taxi fare

“One night stopover”

Very nice hotel you need to be on 3rd flr or above to get a good view of the Grand Mosque an eye catching local attraction (open for tours every morning except friday. The souq next door has number of very nice restaurants although the shopping is still to be fully let. Not much to see near by you would need to get taxi to Emirates place Marin Mall approx 30 AED.

The meat Co in the souq next door offers very good steak and seafood.

“Luxurious hotel with surprisingly cheap food!”

Very impressed with the service at every level, including immediate assistance with an angry taxi-driver upon getting dropped off. The cocktails by the pool were very cheap for the Gulf and the room service was exceptional value too. Nice big rooms, absolutely no complaints it was a great stay and would choose it again. Much preferred over the stuck-up attitude at other expensive hotels in Abu Dhabi.
