Abbeville is the parish seat of Vermillion, nicknamed “the most Cajun place on earth.” Modeled after a traditional French village, downtown is home to the 100-year-old St. Mary Magdalen Church and Magdalen Square, where each November 5,000-plus eggs are cooked up for the Giant Omelet Festival. Vermillion River runs through town providing plenty of oysters for the local restaurants and oyster bars.
