The hotel is very nice, but some rooms, especially the bathrooms, are beginning to show signs of age. This is true in the older section of the hotel. The location is geographically great, but is very, very dangerous. Too bad they just can't lift the hotel and relocate! Crossing ninth of July ave. the safety is increased, although still dangerous. If you don't plan to walk around the hotel much or if you are not traveling alone or with just women, it should be OK.
An ideal hotel in a great location. A really nice stay, and the hotel staff are all very welcoming. The hotel restaurant is great to try as well - excellent food, and possibly one of the best desserts I have ever eaten!
The hotel is modern, well decorated and in good condition. Lovely big queen sized bed, fridge, safe, coffee maker (Nespresso) and good HD TV. Bathroom with a nice bath as well as a separate shower cubicle.
Buenos Aires an amazing place. I will definitely be going back, and will almost certainly stay in the same hotel. Great.

Facilities are brand new, staff very kind, bar and restaurant are awesome and very good prices. Breakfast also very good. Also the SPA is so beautiful and relaxing, Place totally recommended to visit Buenos Aires. I loved it!
After several years of staying at a different Apart-Hotel we decided to make a change and we were pleasantly surprised with this "old gem" what lacks in certain amenities or comfort of a four or five stars hotel is compensated for the friendly staff and the FABULOUS breakfast buffet and is near a lot of "must see" items in Buenos Aires. You could still "feel" the "charm" when famous writer Garcia Lorca stayed at this hotel around 1930. And if you want to visit and enjoy a "boliche atmosphere" of Old Buenos Aires don't miss a Saturday Show at the Guyana (half a block) from the Castelar: Four or five hours of Argentinian songs and dance , dinner and wine for less than US $ 60.00 and you can walk back to the hotel (You can't go wrong, but better reserve an spot Saturday afternoon)
