Longgang district is noted for dozens of traditional homes built by the Hakka, who migrated southward from central China centuries ago. Residences are often walled and either round or square. One of the largest is protected within the Longgang Hakka Folk Culture Museum. Other examples are found in the Crane Lake Fortified Hakka Village and Hakka Culture Museum.
