Great location, quiet and removed from the relative loudness of the rest of Praia da Rocha.
Staff were superb - and the breakfast could keep you going until dinner.
Pool was an oasis - and the rooms, while a little cramped, were fresh, clean and comfortable.
If you do stay - best restaurants with a view nearby are Restaurant F, and Dockside. The rest of the town is mostly British and Irish bars. If you want a bit more tranquility, take a 10 euro cab to Alvor - pretty little fishing village full of restaurants.

This hotel is high luxe and yet surprisingly friendly. I find mself quibbling over silly things which annoy me when other people do it but I still will! They upgraded us to a gigantic suite but this one had a double bed not the twins we had booked (for me and my mum). They had opened the sofa bed which I slept on - and stayed awake all night as it was as hard as nails! So then they made the admittedly football pitched sized bed into an "american double" and this was fine but still I had to wonder - were all the twins booked? There was an almighty racket in the room next door with singing and chatting and music pumping out until 5.30am one night. The hotel was very slow to shut them up. But actually all in all you get more than you pay for - the pools are lovely, I loved swimming under water as there is music playing which is very meditative. Take your goggles!
I am not sure why you have to pay 25 euros to have a seat and umbrella on the beach. The biggest fault of this hotel is that it is too far from the beach, so I can only guess that they are having to pay another company to use this beach, as without the umbrellas etc it is a bit too hot. I didn't like this beach as much as the one across the bridge at Quinta do lago, which is much much nicer -more deserted, it has a lovely little bar where you can lounge on a really comfortable chair looking out to sea sipping a G and T - for nothing (for the seat -the G and T was 7.5 euros). Advice - rent a car as taxis add up!

Stayed here for a week in September 2014. It was recommended by a family member who knows how particular I am and it really was excellent. The staff were charm itself, from the minute we checked in. If something was faulty, it was replaced or repaired asap, the same day. The apartment was well appointed, with everything well thought through. Full of quality furniture and linen. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and was serviced halfway through the week, which we did not expect.
The hotel reception staff were so friendly and provided lots of information about local travel and where to buy food etc, as we were self-catering. They let us have a late check-out and provided towels and toiletries for a shower as we were on an evening flight. The resort itself was not suitable for teenagers as there were no clubs-which we were perfectly happy about!

Just had a fabulous week in Cascade Hotel. We didn't use the Spa facilities so can't comment on that, but the large outdoor pool was heated and very clean. We only booked a Standard Double and I was dubious and worried that maybe we should have upgraded, but we need not have worried as we were delighted with the room and its facilities. It was large, plenty of storage places and lovely bathroom with gorgeous L'occitane products.

4th time here over past 2 years --this time in main building in refurbished room which is very well done --no waste paper basket in bedroom ! Bit strange but small thing --as before all staff very friendly well trained and genuinely pleased to see us back --breakfast in both Whale and Bela Vita is excellent --good choice of restaurants on site as well as Arte Nautice fish restaurant on beach where wines are noticeably cheaper than in restaurants on site
We ate twice in arte nautica and adega (portugese traditional)but were a bit diappointed that Whale menu was a lot changed and to our taste not for better --it seemed that it had been made a bit posher but we missed a couple of really nice simple pasta dishes and generally Whale seemed less popular than on previous visits and not open as often for either lunch ot dinner --we asked about changes to menu but were told it was ,, result,, of research !maybe it was but we were not impressed ! We didnt fancy Aladdin which again had changed menu and seemed to have gone upin price --ate lunch at bar outside Residence and really good simple food pizza baguettes wraps and salads --all staff here were justoutstanding --really very friendly including a couple ofplacement students
