South Male has a distinctly remote and less populated feel than its northern neighbour. Some of the best dive sites incorporate caves, sunken vessels, and protected marine areas. And for non-divers, snorkelling is on offer in the clear waters of a number of reef tops and edges if the currents are favourable. In addition, key surf breaks have been identified, with the best waves recorded from May-November and March-April. Several of the previously uninhabited islands now host luxury resorts.
