Our room had lots of space and natural light whilst being relatively quiet. Very comfortable bed and a decent bath. All these features are important for us and The Maids Head delivered. They were overbooked when we first arrived and we were given a very noisy attic room but with a bit of shuffling on their part the wonderful staff were able to come up with something 100% better. Can't say enough about how much we appreciated this. It was a very important trip for us. Loved the hotel's bar and restaurant too.....great lunches.
Our trip to Norfolk was to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham on the August Bank Holiday weekend, Aug 23-25th. All hotels closer to the village were fully booked, so we chose the Mercure hotel. The location was simply perfect for us with Asda supermarket just across the road. Breakfast was excellent. The only draw back was that since it was a hot weekend the air conditioning was blowing warm air.so we had to leave our window open in the night. There is ample amount of parking space too. Good gym and swimming pool. I recommend this hotel for a short or longer stay.
We started off with a good welcome and an excellent suggestion for dinner at the pub just a few minutes walk away. The room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Aylwin's breakfast was a delight and beautifully presented in a breakfast room that looks over their lovely garden.
It would have been easy to walk into town. Nice to have off-street parking.
I booked the Marsham Arms at the very last minute. In view of the price, I was expecting something very basic, though the reviews were very positive.
My partner and I were very pleasantly surprised! The restaurant was lovely, and we had a fantastic meal. Our room, although smallish (the 'economy double') was larger than I had expected (I have paid double this price for a room of the same size elsewhere!) but not tiny, and very well kitted out, with a lovely comfy bed. The whole place was absolutely spotlessly clean, and finished very nicely - nothing looked drab or tired. The staff were fantastic; everyone we encountered was polite, attentive, warm and couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast was fantastic - a full English to be proud of.
Overall, can't fault this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed the ambience both inside and out. The dinner meal was presented very well and waitress was very attentive, but I had a little $ticker shock after the conversion. Breakfast was also very enjoyable as well as the variety of beer, but not at breakfast.
