My one night stay at the Hotel du Vin Newcastle was a thoroughly pleasurable experience.
From the moment I checked in until I checked out, the staff were extremely helpful and more importantly, exceptionally pleasant.
The room was very large and comfortable and the overall ambiance of the hotel was in keeping with other du Vin hotels I have stayed at........the hotels are usually situated in a traditional industrial premises and superbly converted to an extremely high standard and thus hotel is no different.
Only minor criticisms were:- 1) Location of hotel is a 10 -15 minute walk to the city centre 2) The car park is very small and 3) As it us not a city centre hotel, I think the £10 a night parking fee is a bit steep!
Overall, a really pleasant stay in a very nice comfortable hotel.

We used the hotel as a base whilst I underwent some tests and procedures at the Royal Victoria infirmary. The staff could not have been more helpful and all in all the quality of our stay was exceptional.
The bedrooms are understated but well-equipped. Our room was spacious and incorporated a substantial ensuite bathroom (possibly made bigger by disability provision). The hotel offers free Wi-Fi this was always up and running.
We experienced room service and dining in the restaurant and also took some bar meals. As one might expect the meals are individually prepared and in consequence the range is limited. Vegetarian options are limited but if one includes fish in the diet the choice is wider.
by far the most striking feature of the whole experience was the pleasant and personal rapport with all members of staff. Clearly someone takes great care in recruiting, training and monitoring.

Externally the Metropolitan looks like just another B&B. Internally, it's very different. The decor has been put together by a designer, and the room was attractive as well as adequately spacious. The breakfast, cooked to order at precisely the specified time, was delicious.
The Metropolitan is a short walk from the beach and from all the dining facilities you want from fish and chips to fine Italian.
Car parking is the only problem. There is free parking on the road outside, but you will be lucky to gain a spot.

Cannot miss the hotel - masses of glorious hanging baskets and greenery at the front. We were lucky to note a reviewer's comment to arrive after 4 pm (one tends to glaze over booking sites' details).
We parked our car on the hotel's private forecourt. The hotel was very clean and fresh. Bedroom very comfortable with good windows which one could open if more fresh air was required. Tea/coffee making facilities in room and if required, Liz will happily let you have a jug of milk. Shower was good with good water pressure.
Plenty of restaurants within strolling distance AND do ask Liz for recommendations - she is good!! Metro stations within walking distance and a most convenient bus stop just up the road from hotel for regular buses to Newcastle.
If you feel a bit greedy with the breakfast cereals, variety of dried fruits, fresh fruits, home made compote and two varieties of home made marmalade (highly recommended) not to mention yoghurt, rack of toasts and butter, tea/coffee - just remember the marvelous cooked breakfast is yet to come and it is massive!
We stayed two very comfortable nights and will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owners are really friendly and helpful. Everything was well thought through. Breakfast was very tasty. South Shields has a lovely beach, with great walks along the coast. We visited the nearby Roman fort. Transport links are good so Newcastle city centre is very accessible by Metro. I'd definitely recommend this guesthouse to friends. A great place to stay in an interesting town.
