A town in southwestern Sicily, Mazara del Vallo made news in 1998 when a bronze statue called Dancing Satyr was found in the Strait of Sicily by a fishing boat. The statue is believed to have been sculpted by Greek artist Praxiteles and is on display at the city museum. Other attractions include the remains of an old Norman castle built in 1073, as well as a number of churches.
