Located opposite the majestic Nijo Castle, the ANA Crowne Plaza is serviced by shuttle buses running every fifthteen minutes to Kyoto Station for easy access to the shinkansen train services. The Nijojo-mae subway station is a couple of minutes walk and will connect to pretty much anywhere in Kyoto. Some staff are able to speak English and very willing to assist, which is particularly useful when trying to make reservations for restaurants and other attractions that require you to book ahead.
Very cute boutique hotel, small but fresh, clean and new rooms. The staff was amazing and helped us with dinner options - a few great restaurants are nearby. We enjoyed Japanese barbecue at a place called 'What's'. The actual hotel block is quiet and residential but just a few blocks away (5-10 min walk) you have many bus connections and metro lines are a bit further. The castle, imperial palace are within walking distance as well. I would suggest asking the staff if on how to choose the best restaurant for what you're looking for. Many options were less obvious and trying to randomly find a place did not work well.
We are very impressed by the warm welcome with nice green tea and snack, lovely napkins . English and Mandarin speaking staff are there to serve.
Extremely impressed by the cleanliness in the room, especially our private bath and toilet.
Lovely daily replenishment of our personal towels and toiletries with very nicely packages. We love this tiny accessories so much and even bring back home.
Nice and yummy breakfast and dinner, full tummy. Cannot imagine they arranged dedicated table at the breakfast venue with your number clearly displayed.
Definitely will recommend this nice ryokan to anyone who like to visit Kyoto - convenient location near the main Kyoto JR station and shopping streets.....excellent service and food.
Really value for money - 6-star service but only pay for 4 star fee.
My daughter and I stayed here for 5 nights and were so impressed! The employees are amazing! My daughter has food allergies and despite language barriers the manager took incredible care of all her meals, making sure she had safe and wonderful tasting food! The other staff were wonderful, the servers, the bartender and the concierge who helped us out every morning to plan our day and figure out how to get around. Kyoto is quite a marvelous place, I will definitely go back! The location of the hotel is very central and easy to get to the major attractions while being close to the station.
Our rooms were nice, small by N. American standards, but fine for us. The hotel has this underground spring water tapped into, so your skin and hair are super nice, I really miss that water! There are good restaurants and a great bar. Be sure not to miss the Japanese cuisine restaurant, apparently not a lot of Westerners go there, but you must! It has fabulous Japanese food, and if you are in Japan, well, of course you must eat Japanese style food! Extremely tasty, and super presentation, and wonderful servers.
We enjoyed our stay so much, we were actually teary eyed when we left! We are Facebook friends with a couple of the employees now - how often do you connect like that with a hotel! If I could rate it 10 out of 5 I would!
Stayed in room 402 for just one night, but really wished I could have stayed longer. The rooms were really huge with plenty of facilities such as a Nespresso machine (with complementary coffee!), a bath tub and walk-in closet. It's situated just across the road from the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and walking distance to Teramachi and Nishiki market which are great places for shopping and finding good food. Staff was really helpful and recommended me a nearby restaurant for dinner. There are also plenty of information readily available from the information counter which was really helpful. 5 stars and would stay here again.
"Excellent traditional experience close to everythi"
Really stay in a ryokan so I don't know how faithful this is to the traditional experience. What I can say is that staff are exceptional - welcoming and friendly. Rooms are minimally furnished as is expected in a ryokan but comfortable and with all modern conveniences. We didn't have dinner but breakfasts were excellent.
