This relatively remote, wild upland area attracts walkers searching the highest points of Cornwall, namely the tors (rock outcrops) of Rough Tor and Brown Willy. The main settlements, Camelford and Liskeard (lis-kard) are pleasant, sleepy towns. Visitor attractions include Bodmin Jail, Jamaica Inn (immortalised by Daphne du Maurier) and Lanhydrock House and gardens, one of the finest late 19th-century houses in England.
