Greeted warmly by the reception staff, shown to our room which was warm and comfortable, and had an excellent meal in the bar. There is a great choice of places to sit and relax. Breakfast in the dining room was delicious and had panoramic views over the loch. Overall a great stay and very good value for money too.
"Outstanding hotel, despite needing minor upgrades"
The location is excellent. It is about 20 minutes walk or a short cheap taxi ride to the ferry terminal and the railway station if you are using Oban as a centre for visiting the highlands and islands. The staff are helpful and courteous. The full Scottish breakfasts are outstanding, the bar meals are good, and the restaurant, though quite pricey, more or less lives up to its pretensions. The Jacuzzi bath in our room, which I think was standard in all, was a nice feature.
Access to the annex at the back, where most of the rooms are, is awkward; there are 14 stairs before reaching a corridor that leads to the lift, and a number of fire doors to negotiate. This could be a serious obstacle for anyone with mobility problems.
Soundproofing needs to be improved; the walls and floors in the annex were excellent transmitters of footsteps, creaks and plumbing noises, and at the front door is a notice asking people not to talk outside the door late at night because it disturbs the guests.
Despite those quibbles, I would go back there again.

What a fabulous weekend we had. The hotel was beautifully cosy and comfortable for November, with woodburners blazing. Food was fabulous, room extremely comfortable and staff very attentive and considerate. The location was also fabulous, with stunning views out to sea and over to Lismore and Ardnamurchan. We sat at breakfast watching an otter swim around the pier, with the aid of binoculars thoughtfully provided by the hotel.

The hotel sits on the edge of Lower Loch Long and enjoys views to the South West that give you a good view of Dunoon and down the Clyde to the open sea. Restaurant, bar and both lounges are comfortable and pleasantly presented. Food is superb. Room I had was very good indeed, and was not the best they have. Staff were efficient, friendly and appeared when you wanted them not hovering like some hotels. Overall, a very good hotel which I will use again.

Very well sited for the prehistoric sites around Kilmartin. Lovely place run by very nice people. Prices very reasonable for the standard of accommodation, especially as you have access to the extensive estate surrounding. Highly recommended.
My wife nd I had a lovely time. Alistair was full of recommendations, and we really enjoyed sittign in the living room playing scrabble in between long walks in the area. We were very happy with our stay.
Excellent room, large, well appointed & comfortable. Bed was superb & comfy. Lovely bathroom, again, plenty of space, great fittings & fixtures: bath plus separate shower cubicle. A very comprehensive breakfast menu was included, something for everyone, tasty & well prepared food. Very impressed & would undoubtedly stay again!
