The regional capital, Perigueux is a busy provincial city, renowned for its splendid produce markets (Wed. and Sat.) and its gastronomic restaurants, which make good use of local produce. Remains of the old Roman settlement called Vesunna survive (a temple tower and an arena), and the Musée Gallo-Romain displays finds from a well-preserved villa. But the most striking building is the cathedral, whose domes resemble Pariss Sacré-Coeur.
