The place is conveniently located in a shopping complex with good choice of restaurants and a supermarket. However, at night the nearby pub plays loud music till late, apparently also week days. When I was there the swimming pool was under renovation so could not be used. The breakfast area is located in another building within the complex and I had not been given information on how to reach it, I had to find out by calling a phone number since early in the morning I could not find someone to ask - So, perhaps communication to the clients could be improved. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
The hotel is a bit out of the way, which means it's necessary to take a taxi (at least at night) to go just about anywhere in Nairobi (including restaurants for dinner). And that might be necessary on occasion because the restaurant is pricey and only average quality. But the real problem during a stay in May 2014 was that the entire neighborhood is one big construction site. A new building was going up right behind the hotel, which meant loud construction noises from 7a.m. every day plus lots of dust. The dust issue was an even greater problem just outside the hotel's gates because most of the roads in the Upperhill area are in various stages of being torn up or resurfaced. It was a complete mess -- massive potholes, choking dust that turned to fields of mud after rainstorms, etc. Just getting to the hotel was a messy, traffic-clogged chore.
The staff seemed to recognize the inconveniences and appeared to be trying their best. Everyone was quite nice and helpful. But even their great attitudes could not compensate for the fact that it was unpleasant to stay there, largely for reasons outside their control.
One final (minor) complaint: the TV channel selection is awful. Usually I don't care much about that, but in this case the only news channel was CCTV, the Chinese government's channel. It's pure jingoism and propaganda. Why not get BBC News Worldwide and/or CNN International?
Nice hotel, very good location, and the food is just OK (I'd recommend to eat outside, many places nearby). The internet connection is good though it's a bit expensive. But what I appreciate the most is the garden and the nice swimming pool where you can relax after a long day at work. For people who do sport, you'll find a good gym there (free access during your stay). I recommend it for business travellers.
Was looking for somewhere to stay overnight - basic and cheap bed and breakfast and this was perfect. Incredibly good value for money with the Expedia discount came to around £30. Staff very friendly and efficient. Secure, clean, comfortable - all you need. Close to city centre but easy and quick access to bypass highway system out to Northern Kenya.
Upon my return from a tour to another country, after staying for several days in 680 hotel in Nairabi, I showed my passport to identify myself as a client who was there before and has booked for the 28th, I was shocked to be told that I have no booking at all.Because I was tired after 12 hrs of flight, checking in two ports, etc. I requested the staff to let my baggage in, ckeck her records, allow me to have shower and if no booking as she claims I will pay cash. This staff, seem to be temporary staff to cover x-mass holiday, refused and asked me to get the voucher. I told her that I can show her in my internet. She again said you can't print from here, go out side the next street and bring a print. Imagine 6.00 PM in Nairobi, to go out side with your hand bag on your shoulder !!!!!. I was really frustrated but anyhow went and brought the required print. Now the question is how could this rude, untrained staff left to work at this period of time. How couldn't she find my name??? Whose mistake was that my name was not shown in the record.
Anyhow, the next day I spoke to customers representative( Mrs Annette) and explained the whole story. I showed to her that I am not intending to take deciplinary action but to train her on how to deal with customers.
