Located where the River Maggia flows into Lake Maggiore, Locarno boasts the mildest climate in Switzerland. Shops, restaurants, and cafés fill the bustling Piazza Grande and each August the piazza becomes an outdoor cinema for the International Film Festival. Narrow streets wind through Old Town leading to the archaeological museum housed in a medieval castle. From a rocky hilltop, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso overlooks the city below.
