Surrounded by the Alps on all four sides, La Maurienne is chiefly a winter sport destination. About 20 ski resorts — for downhill, cross-country, and even snowboarding enthusiasts — are in the area. The village is home to 5,000 year-round and home to as many as 15,000 during the winter. The village is accessible by main motorways and by train.
