Though it plays up its century-plus history, the Daniel is a new line in affordable, urban-chic, cosmopolitan hotels in convenient locations, ie by the train station. Surly receptionist at check-in initially put me off but the room won me over – extremely comfortable, easy on the eye, and offering a sense of everything moving smoothly. A sliding double door serves both spacious rain shower and toilet, a separate sink has been placed outside the shower area for swift hand-washing and teeth-brushing, and a movable tray table acts as a work desk while you're propped up in bed. Sadly only one pillow though. Other touches include the brochure holders, one of those around-town, across-the-chest bags for personal effects, and the hair-dryer kept in a kit bag hanging off the bathroom door. You almost want to walk in holding a perfectly mixed latte that you grabbed before your business meeting. The lobby area takes its classic look from Italy, with a row of customised Vespas, and coffee machine behind the desk. No mini bar, so quick check-out – there's a (somewhat pricy) dispensing machine by the lift for soft drinks, snacks and (ahem) condoms. The cafe/restaurant is a meeting place in itself. WiFi throughout. Breakfast was extra.

The room was the largest I have seen in any hotel I have stayed in for this modest price range. You could have housed a suite of rooms in it. It included a table with six chairs and a four person sofa. You could have held a party for 30 people. The ensuite, superbly equipped, had "his" and "hers" washbasins and was as big as some bedrooms I've stayed in. The staff were all extremely helpful, even managing to pick the lock of a suitecase whose key we had left behind. If I have a criticism, I thought that the common areas, stairwells, landings etc could have done with a good emulsion which slightly damaged the overall impression.

Although there was a problem with our booking on arrival, this wasn't the hotel's fault and the staff were extremely helpful. This is a modern hotel with an extensive spa area, a bus ride away from Graz city centre - as a result it wasn't so expensive and offered good value for money. Room was comfortable and clean, though entrance to the shower was narrow and would have caused problems to a larger or less mobile guest. Food was very good, though the menu was a bit limited - breakfast was more than adequate and offered good value. The hotel is about a 15 minute bus ride from the tourist attractions, but there's a 10 minute interval service, very inexpensive on a 24-hour or tourist ticket basis. The pool and spa pool were clean and pleasant (pool a bit chilly one night!) but be aware that it's used for aerobic classes early morning and evening - guests welcome but means lengths etc not possible. The spa area has a lot of facilities, but you need to be aware that clothing isn't allowed in there! Overall this hotel offered very good value for money.
This hotel is a bit difficult to find. It was OK but the lack of suitable air conditioning and the noise outside until 3 AM was very annoying. We had a 2 room suite. The decor was very average and the breakfast was barely OK (not much selection). However, a fairly short walk (10 min) to the old section of Graz although I would be concerned a bit coming back late at night. Overall...basic and average.

Stayed fro 2 nights. Easy to find from the autoroute. Very good bus connections into the town centre. Stayed in exceptionally hot weather and the room and hotel were very hot, but this was unusual. Staff pleasant and helpful.
