Eze is a classic village perché, hugging a hilltop around a ruined medieval castle with cactus-filled gardens offering dazzling views. Though traffic-free, Eze is always crowded in summer. A picture-postcard maze of narrow streets winds round the 18th-century Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs containing enamel panelling and a 13th-century crucifix. A steep path leads down to the seafront and the resort extension of Eze-sur-Mer.
