Hotel was lovely and clean. The decor was modern and minimal. Complimentary mini bar with a few drinks. The hotel offered a few finishing touches such as a little bad of sleepy sheep sweeties to greet us upon arrival in our room. Staff were friendly and always available. Would definately reccomend, especially if you're looking for something close by to the Christmas markets! :)
The Novum hotel is quite cenrally situated in a rather suburban square within 15 minutes walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof. Regular trams connect with all parts of Dusseldorf, but it is a pleasant walk into the city centre. The hotel is a little dated -the room was large and airy, but could do with a refurb. The bathroom had an excellent shower, bath and was totally spotless.Towels and bedding were changed regularly throughout our stay and the room was cleaned meticulously each day.The decor was a bit drab, but the beds were comfortable and the flat screen tv had a good choice of channels. The buffet breakfast was really good..aselection of breads, cereals, meats, cheese and cooked eggs.Plenty of good quality coffee and fruit juices.free newspaper on 24 hour reception and helpful staff. No bar but a drinks dispenser in reception but there is a lovely bar across the roaroad that sells food.Well worth the money we paid.Would recommend this for a no frills stay.Excellent value.

This hotel is really cool and by far the most modern hotel I have ever stayed in.
The rooms are very small (the width of a kingsized bed) but packed with the nicest amenities. We stayed here the night before leaving paris as it was right next to the airport so we had no reason to unpack or need very much space. For any longer stay, with more than one person, the room would be quite small.
The first thing you notice when you walk into the room is the king size bed that is the width of the whole back half of the room. There is a TV mounted above the bed and a samsung tablet in a cradle that controls everything in the room. From the remote tablet you can adjust the color and brightness of every light in the room - together or individually; raise and lower the blinds; turn on the TV and browse through movies/TV shows/radio just like you would on the inFlight entertainment (they have all the newest movies); set a room alarm that turns on the lights and tv for you to wakeup in the morning; or just use it to browse the internet like a regular tablet.
Other things I loved:
1) the towels are some of the best towels I have ever seen in a hotel. Beach sized towels that were insanely plush. If there was ever a towel you would want to steal this is it - though you would need an extra bag because of how big and fluffy they are.
2) No internet password or startup page - just click and connect to the one wifi in the list "citizenM"
3. Imacs in downstairs with printers -free to use
I stayed overnight at Best Western Ambassador Hotel in Dusseldorf, Germany last Oct. 10 on my way to the Convention in Oelde the following day. The hotel although very old is well-maintained, I was impressed on how they were able to maintain the original equipment like the elevator and other hotel accessories. The staff were very courteous and friendly.I highly recommend it!

I was very pleased with the staff. As well as their politeness it gave me excellent opportunity for me to practise my spoken German. Every time I visit Germany I endeavour only speak in German. This is the best way to improve oneself in a foreign language.
Although the weather was rather cold I enjoyed my short visit.
I checked out a number of hotels online before booking and the price for the value seemed to be best for the Excelsior and my hunch worked out! Nice place, 15 minute or less walk to Altstadt, clean rooms, quiet hotel, really good breakfast, friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice hotel without having to pay a ridiculous amount.
If you have a car you have to park across the street at the parking garage. It's around 17 euro a night so that part wasn't so fun but if you've been to Europe before you'll know that parking in the cities is always at a premium. You might be able to drive around and find a spot along the street but it was pretty full everywhere. Not the hotels fault though.
