The therapeutic properties of mineral-rich thermal springs have been the fortune of this modest spa town in the verdant Pisan hills. Its present name is Casciana Terme, but long ago the Romans knew it as Bagno ad Acqua, and in the 18th century it became Bagni di Casciana. Many of its elegant villas were built for wealthy patrons over a century ago, while pastel-coloured churches grace its quiet tree-lined piazzas.
