Staying at this hotel was a good experience for us. While it is an older hotel with small rooms, it was very clean and offered everything that we needed. It is close to the San Lucia train station and the Grand Canal, so that it was easy to get around. The included breakfast was quite good. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends. It is a little hard to find. On leaving the station turn left and walk down this street. Do not cross the bridge. Turn left off this active street to a short quiet street. There is a small sign and the turn is an arch way between two stores. Watch closely. If you get to a place where the street widens out and there is a back wall of a church, you have gone too far. If you are walking for more than 10 minutes, you have gone too far. Ask some one.

We were delayed by a day because of a train strike and hotel did not charge us for the late cancellation. Room was old world Venice charm, right on a small canal in the Dorsodora area. Vaperato stop was just 2blocks away, st marks was 15 min walk. Have a small Resturant, breakfast good adequate. No complaints, we have been to Venice before & found the location to be good for everything.

excellent location, close to S.Toma water bus and easy to walk to key places as well.
restaurant closed so there were no dining facilities in the hotel as advertised - breakfast served in another hotel, only 3 or 4 minutes walk away, but we were not told about this in advance.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly receptionist who helped us take our suitcases to the annex. The room was pretty and VERY large for a hotel in Venice, (I stayed at a different hotel in April, and my room was 1/3 the size and more expensive). The #1 vaporetto is right around the corner, making it easy to get around Venice. During our stay, all of the staff greeted us with smiles, and overall we had a wonderful time.

We booked this hotel based on the number of good reviews, and they weren't wrong!
Its is rated as two star so don't expect to bump into George Clooney in the reception but many of its features are worthy of three stars.
Its close to the bus station, only 5-10 minutes walk depending upon how many bags you have (only two bridges to negotiate), but a bit further from the train station. Nothing is very far from the main attractions in Venice and the hotel is close enough without having to fight your way through the tourists to get there.
The breakfast is the usual Italian coffee, buns, croissants, jam, Nutella :) , cereal and yogurt; but there's plenty of it and the breakfast lady is very friendly and cheerful.
Our room, 36, was on the second floor at the end of the corridor so was a bit bigger than the others and the bathroom had a window - no big deal, just nice to have. The room itself was comfortable, with aircon and an opening window with shutters as well. There is no fridge (but then it is two star). The room was cleaned to a good standard daily, the housekeeper was also very cheerful. The only downside to the room, we felt, was the bed was too hard for us - but that is down to taste and you can't please all the guests all the time. We were there in late October so can't comment on what the room is like in the heat of summer. (I wouldn't go to Venice in the summer anyway, it would be far too hot and way too crowded which would spoil the experience).
The Hotel Orion is the ideal spot if you want to be near to the action, with the Piazza San Marco being only a stones throw away.
We chose late September for our trip as our research suggested this was a good time of year weather wise. We didn't concern ourself too much with coinciding our trip with local seasonal events, though this might be worth bearing in mind.
Even though we didn't see him, it was a mere coincidence that George Clooney just happened to be getting married in Venice whilst we were there.

We loved the Canada : staff really helpful, good rooms (we had the room at the top, with a roof terrace), and five minutes from the Rialto (if that) and a little further to Piazza San Marco. We'd definitely stay here again.
