"Excellent Location, Friendly Staff, Price Is Right"
I walked into a well-loved hotel, it is definitely lacking updates but the staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel and rooms were clean. The elevator is the oldest elevator I have ever been in which is a little nerve-wracking. BUT parking was not expensive for overnight parking across the street, the hotel was well priced for how close it is to EVERYTHING in downtown San Fran. Loved my stay, would definitely come back.

"Nice hotel right downtown "
We enjoyed our stay at the Baldwin hotel. It was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and was within walking distance to everything in the downtown area including Chinatown. The only downside was that our room was facing the street and it was quite noisy throughout the night.

"Value hotel at Powell Bart Station."
This a very convenient location from the Powell Street BART station. The front desk folks were cordial and welcoming and I appreciated the glass of wine at check-in. I was here by myself for an overnight at a two day conference at a venue near another BART station. For this, the hotel is perfect and met expectations.

"Close to Union Square"
They are going under renovations....the rooms are very small. Make you get a room with your own bathroom!!! We had one which was nice but I've read reviews where they had to share. When I checked in the guy who was neither nice or rude gave us our room on the 2 floor, I asked to be moved and he gave us a great room on the top floor with a great view of the street below. Forewarned....it's a busy area with lot's of people and sirens...but it's the city, you can't expect anything less. The day time man was super nice just a genuinely happy guy. We would stay here again without our two kids. The room is perfect for 2. You can't beat the price for the location and if you are busy exploring the city and utilizing your hotel to just sleep and take a shower, this place is perfect!!

"Funky Cool Place"
I loved this hotel! It's old and quirky, and that's the reason I liked it. If you expect a Ritz-Carlton type of experience, move along. This place isn't for you. I have a few "must haves" for hotels. I want a clean room. Clean, as in no bugs and it needs to be spotless. I don't want to feel like I have to wipe everything down with chlorox wipes. My room was spotless. Very clean. The 5 story hotel is old, so expect small rooms. A bed, small desk, fridge, sink (yes, the sink is located next to the bed not in the bathroom), closet and flat screen tv make up the living space. There's not a ton of room to move around, but it's comfortable. The bathroom had a claw foot tub and toilet. We had a view into a non-accessible courtyard thing. It has a fabulous mural type painting. The windows open about 8 inches. There is no air conditioning. With the windows open, you will hear the sounds of the city during the night. It doesn't matter what room you're in. You will hear sirens and garbage trucks. You're in the city at a boutique hotel. Get over it. The lobby is on the 2nd floor. The stairway is very narrow, steep and creaky. There is a cool old scissor gate elevator. We were told it's one of the few working scissor gate elevators in the city. I found it charming. I'm glad they kept it. The hotel is in the financial district. You can catch any type of transportation to take you anywhere in the city. Very easy to get around. The location is excellent!

"Great location, right in the city centre. "
Hotel was undergoing renovations whilst we were there, staff where very apologetic about it but it didn't bother us, it was nice to see a hotel making improvements. Lady at front desk was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small very very neat and clean. Location was great, close to food, shopping and public transport. I probably wouldn't stay there again wirh a car as the car park was not close by and quite expensive, but perfect if you didn't have a car and were relying on public transport.

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.
