The room was very small (about the size of a cruise ship cabin) as expected. We were on the third floor with no elevator, again as expected. The breakfast was a little disappointing, breads and croisoants with cheese and cold cereal and of coarse coffee. The location was fantastic, only about 10 mins. walk from the train station if you know where you are going and without bags, a little bit longer if that's not the case. If you are looking for a place with large rooms and elevators you will be disappointed, if you don't care about room size or elevators and want to be centrally located with easy walking access to most of the tourist sights then this is a very good option.

"Cheap but small. Keep expectations in check."
I stayed in a small single bed room for 2 weeks (Not the hostel, I can't speak to that). I paid 30 euro less per night than any of the other decent cheapest hotels. Keep that price in mind for the rest of the review. Cons: I would not recommend 2 people stay here, not even the closest couple. There just isn't space. The walls are a little scuffed up, and the cleaning lady will often make the bed without changing the sheets. You will probably have to ask the front desk if you want more shampoo/conditioner. There were a few problems with the electricity but was fixed to my satisfaction. Pros: Provided a fan- This is incredibly important in venice where A/C is very rare, and nights force you to pick your poison between intense heat of closed windows or the mosquitos that come when they're open (you won't find a single screened window in venice). The wifi which is free in the lobby managed to reach my room, so I had free wifi the whole trip. This is unheard of in America, let alone Venice. This will depend on the location of your room, so maybe don't count on it (though I was on the 3rd floor). Last but certainly not least, I paid 70 EU per night when the next cheapest anywhere else was 100. The only way I could have paid less was getting lucky on air B&B or sharing a room with 10 people in a hostel. Overall, recommended for an individual who is cheap but doesn't expect much.

Pocket Guide: Venice San Polo 2 stars Hotels

Home of the Rialto Market, San Polo is the busiest 'sestiere' (district) after San Marco. For local colour, great little shops, bars and cafes, the Rialto market area is a must. Dining on the Grand Canal next to the iconic Rialto Bridge is a romantic Venetian cliché. Near the bridge, the Ca' Pesaro is home to the Museum of Modern Art while 16th-century masterpieces are on show at the Frari church and Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
