The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's right in the heart of San Francisco and there were so many places we could visit by walking from here. We stayed during Black Friday time so it was great to pay a few visits to Macy's and the shops around and immediately able to return to the hotel to drop off our purchases. Service was also excellent, there were many receptionists during our 3-day stay and all of them were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was ok, a little small with a view of a brick wall, but totally quiet and completely private. Breakfast was good but we wished there were more choices. The shuttle service to airport was smooth and well worth the price.
"Excellent location. Close to everything. Staff XNT"
It was our 1st vacación in downtown SF. There are tons of things to see there and The Mosser is close to almost everything and most of all it's next to trolley buses, buses, cable cars and the BART so transportación is not an issue.
The only not so good experience was with EXPEDIA, not the hotel. The agent said to me nothing about having a room with no bathroom. I was supposed to share w/other 2 guests. I had to pay for an upgrade to get into our room (not pleasent) when I thought I had my budget under control. Your (Expedia) goal is not to sell but to satisfy customers!!
We were there during a massive storm and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us including extending breakfast time, giving out bottled water, handing out flashlights and trying to find people rides even thought the BART system was down, buses weren't running and very few cabs were around. They really went the extra mile.
I've stayed in many hotels around the Moscone Convention Center and this is my new favorite, especially for the price. Old hotel very nicely updated, everything solid, everything clean, staff absolutely wonderful, good coffee in the mornings in the library off the lobby, secure, huge windows in the room and bathroom, lots of storage space in the relatively small room, very comfortable bedding, great shower. Yes, it's on the edge of the Tenderloin, and you will see homeless people and maybe encounter a weirdo or two. But the hotel is only steps off the busy Market Street, so you're never far from a crowd. Plus the wonderful Farmer Brown restaurant (modern soul food) and fabulous Mikkeller Bar (42 taps and brewhouse!) are stumbling distance from the hotel door. Plenty of traffic noise from the street, but that's what you get when you stay in a small hotel in the city.
The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel.
As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights.
If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.
Parking sucks but its San Francisco what do you expect. Also no guest laundry available. Pleasantly surprised though. Was worth the money. SF is no fun during a storm and power outage though. Lol darn mother nature.
