The management and staff did everything they could to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. The help and support to get settled in and to find my way as a tourist was excellent. The food (half board) offered a wide range of dishes, adequate for my needs and the service was efficient and accommodating. My room was cleaned daily, the beds were re-made and I had clean towels... etc. The free internet even worked in my bedroom although they said it only worked in the reception and bar. In all, I had a relaxing, comfortable stay. I would recommend this great value hotel to friends and I definitely will visit again.

Hotel Xapala was fine for a night, in Arenal not too far from the airport. The room had a sitting balcony, and the shape of hotel was good for the area with patios in front and back of lobby. The hot water in the shower took a while to warm up. The beds are only singles; may not be ideal for a couple staying more than a few days or looking for more comfort. It was a little loud at times with groups of younger people on holiday- Arenal is a party area. But overall worth the cost for a short stay with the beach 2 blocks away.
Arrived in a hire car, pretty difficult to park - you need to find a space in the surrounding streets (anywhere apart from on coloured or zig zag lines). Not too bad if you keep looking though! 10 minutes from the airport. Greeted by staff on arrival, very friendly and multilingual. Room was basic with no TV but clean enough with a balcony and hot shower. Breakfast was adequate (a croissant and a couple of rolls with ham or cheese. Tea or coffee also) for the price. Bar prices are very good and there is a nice terrace to sit and relax with your drink. Ca'n Pastilla itself is a friendly compact town with plenty of bars and restaurants for all tastes. The beaches are fine too. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a good base for exploring the island or anyone wanting budget accommodation.
