1.A month prior to our arrival to the hotel, we requested, for an extention of our reservation for one more night due to our ferry's late departure from the island on the last day of our stay and we confirmed that we would of course pay for the whole day although we would have checked out at 11 pm. and not spent the night at the room. But the hotel manager refused to provide us of such extension. He only confirmed that we could stay on the night before, by when he has already confirmed that he had no new arrivals on the next morning( our last day). Even so though he refused to provide such extension on the booked price i.e. 55 Euros p/d and he asked for an increase of same based on the rate at that time I.e. 70 Euros. We of course turned down his offer. I trust such kind if behavior unacceptable and totally unprofessional.
2. The bathroom was flooding each time we took a shower and there was a terrible smell coming from the drains. We had to keep the windows open all the time.
3. The room was cute and clean but extremely small. The breakfast was adequate. Location was good
"Not the Best Choice if Other Options are Available"
Since we were travelling out of season (at the end of December), this was the only hotel available. The condition of the room also made it apparent that there had been few visitors in many weeks. The only route to Patmos was by boat and the staff was very accommodating, meeting us at the port at 3 a.m. It turned out we were only about 100 meters from the hotel, which provided great views of the harbor. The hotel was a small establishment and the rooms were simply furnished. However, it was apparent that the rooms had been vacant for some time and/or hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in awhile. There was a thin layer of dirt or grime on many surfaces, and the glasses in the bathroom (which were stored upright) had a thin film of some kind of dried yellowish brown scum inside! I was not willing to even attempt to use those. It is obvious that the island gets few visitors during the winter since virtually all other establishments were closed. Perhaps during the high season this hotel may be more habitable.
We had a great time at the Joanna Hotel. It was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet retreat from our hectic lives that enabled us to be independent. Like many small hotels in Greece, it came equipped with a small kitchenette, allowing us to cook throughout our stay - when they realised we were cooking, washing up liquid, a sponge and a tea towel appeared. It was a large room with a balcony - no sea view, but very quiet. Comfortable bed, and kept immaculate every day. Theologos was very helpful with suggestions on places to see (my husband particularly loved Psili Ammos beach, less than an hour's walk away) and helped with practical things like car rental, and was happy to chat as well. Grikos is obviously a growing resort now with a large expensive hotel on the town beach - we prefer a less developed location usually, but it only took ten minutes to reach quieter beaches by foot, and the town beach was nice for swimming. Several good restaurants - we particularly liked Ktima Petra, who grow their own veg. Only complaint - no shop in the village! We didn't have a car the whole time, so shopping was a pain, esp. as the water isn't drinkable. This didn't detract from the hotel, which we loved.
A kind welcome, the owner made me feel as if I were the most important person in the world. A great location, a few metres to a quiet, very pretty harbour, with a place to swim and waterfront restaurants with excellent views and very good food. The breakfast was wonderful. I will stay here again.
I have stayed in hotels all over the world. This is one of the very best that I have stayed in.
The owners are very attentive, friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is perfect and as there are only 11 rooms, it is never overcrowded. The breakfast is sumptious with so much of it home made by Petroula, the joint owner, who is a brilliant cook.
An atmosphere of calm pervades the whole place and eating our dinner on the terrace as night fell was an experience that I'll never forget. We can't wait to return.
