Rooms were basic but clean. Everything was exactly as promised. As a single woman traveling alone, I was a bit concerned about safety but always felt completely comfortable in this neighborhood. Enjoyed chatting with Michael. Yes, the subway ride in and out of midtown was about 25 minutes, but it was easy and part of the New York adventure. I'll return here next time I'm in town.

4 days, 3 nights of quintessential old world New York. Centrally located in a quiet residential. If you're looking for a party suite, this is not it. Charming, quaint and cozy without the indignant serving size. Just right!

The Jane is charming & beautiful. The room was tiny but well appointed. Bed was firm & crisp. Bathrooms were clean & private even though it's shared. Great shower. The staff was friendly, professional, and adorable in their uniforms, like stepping into the past. The hotel itself is historic, beautiful, and creepy in a very cool way, a bit shabby, but very comfortable. I will definitely stay there again.
A few things to be aware of... 1) Cafe Gitane is on the main floor of the hotel, but it is NOT part of the hotel. It's a beautiful, french style cafe & has lots of potential, but the service sucked at breakfast. The staff were 20-somethings mostly interested in socializing with each other & jamming to the music. They all cracked up at a patron who knocked a glass off the table when she was leaving, she was clearly embarrassed. Bad form. I had to stand up & wave to get served. The couple next to me waited & waited for their check, finally getting up to tap the server and ask for it. Evening service was better, but my waitress was making out with her boyfriend at the bar. Not super professional. 2) Heat was radiators, it was HOT in my room. I left the window open (30 degrees outside) & the air conditioner on so I could sleep. 3) Old hotel, had some strange smells, like urinal disinfectant cakes. I noticed it strongly when I first walked in, but after a day did not smell them at all, must have got used to it.
Even with the issues, I would stay there again. Really enjoyable.

We were like, "A hotel in Manhattan for that little? What's wrong with it?" Well it is a great deal! The price is low because the rooms are small, there are no real extra's. But if you are looking for a clean, quiet place to flop and you want a deal, this is it. The staff was very friendly and the hotel clean and quiet. What more do you need?
