Towering over the citys west, Gellert Hill is named after Bishop Gellert who fell to his death from the hill in the 11th century. It can be reached either by bus or along one of the walking tracks which wind their way up to the summit. At the top of the hill is the Liberation Monument, built in 1947 to commemorate Budapests liberation from the Germans by Soviet troops.
