"Budget hotel in residential area"
I only stayed the one night. The hotel was run down but the staff friendly, as were the locals in the public bar.

"nice stop over, should of stayed another night"
After reading some reviews, we were wondering what we would find, it does need some money spending on it, new windows, etc, but we had a nice stay, and would go again,

"Not bad at all - but wouldn't pay top whack"
I needed a single room for a Saturday night, and £45 for an ensuite with breakfast was a very fair price. My room was fine, The old place is a bit shabby, but I've paid more for worse and the hotel is right next to Exeter St David's railway station. There was a nice big towel - and tea/coffee/biscuits - but if there was shower gel I couldn't find it. The cooked breakfast is superb. Not a gut-busting buffet, but a perfectly cooked English breakfast to set you up for the day. One little warning. Because it's relatively large, it does seem to get some big parties, sometimes the sort of groups who some hotels would turn away. On a previous visit, we have terrible memories of being kept awake by a bunch of rugby players, who were not only noisy, rude and moronic but also so sure of themselves - in that smug rugger chap sort of way - that even while keeping my family awake at 3am, they were still certain that we should be finding them rather charming and brilliant. This time, a crowd of geezers thundered down the corridor at about 2.30am, but, not being rugby players, they settled for a couple of minutes of banter and then packed it in. Well done fellas. Of course, noisy guests can upset you anywhere, but if you have a family or you really need your kip, it might be worth checking with the hotel if they can guarantee you a quiet room for weekend bookings. Overall though, so long as the price is right - and especially if you want a station hotel - I'd recommend it.

Pocket Guide: Devon Exeter 2 stars Green / Sustainable Hotels

Devon’s principal town, Exeter is not only an historical city but also a lively student centre. Don’t miss the medieval cathedral, one of England’s finest, while the Royal Albert Memorial Museum houses one of England’s best provincial collections. Visitors can take a cruise from Exeter Quayside and visit the quaint port of Topsham. Bicton Gardens is a popular outing and Exeter is also handily placed for exploring Dartmoor and the English Riviera.
