"Wonderful staff, Great Location, Super Little Hote"
This small, homey little hotel is a gem. Located in one of the busiest hutongs in Beijing, you would never know it once you walk in the door. The atmosphere is so peaceful and laid back. The location is right in the middle of things and close to a subway station. The rooms are small, but the welcoming common room is a great place to meet other travelers. The staff is fantastic! They are so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this unique hotel.
Great hotel after you find it. Rooms are clean and have excellent Air Conditioners and flat screen tv's. Plenty of lounge areas outside and inside the hotel for relaxing. Hotel is located in a hutong area that is a bit hard to find if you are not familiar with Beijing. If you walk east from the Beijing Station East Street, take a right after the large bustop area and walk south along a small hutong street. At the end of the hutong street and you will see a police station. Take a right turn at the police station and the hotel is on the left just past the Super 8 Hotel. The hotel is close to the Beijing Railway Subway Station on Line 2 subway and close to Jiangoumen subway station on Line 2.
Hotel is also conveniently located near Cofco plaza which has a McDonalds, Starbucks and HSBC atm. My only complaint is that the bathroom area is open to the rest of the room. Some type of curtain would be nice. If you share the room that only has one double bed, you had better be best buds with your roomie because they can watch you use the toilet and shower.
I love this hotel and try to stay there every time I go to Beijing. It is a traditional 300 year old courtyard style house, which is laid out beautifully. It has everything from the most affordable, modest rooms (which do not include a bathroom), to beautifully spacious rooms that do include a bathroom.
The location of the hotel is very convenient, especially if you plan to use the Metro while in Beijing. It is closest to the "Dengshikou" station (on line #5), and about a 7 minute walk from there. If you take the "C" exit, cross Dengsi South Street, until you reach "Xitangzi Hutong". Turn right down the hutong, and walk almost all the way to the end of the street. There you will see a traditional gate for a courtyard house marked "No. 35, Xitangzi Hutong". Walk through the gate to the first building and enter. This is the office and breakfast room.
Our stay at this hotel was one of our best China experiences, it was everything good other travellers have said about it. Lu Song Yuan Hotel is as shown on website, clean and comfortable (except beds are hard) very quiet atmosphere, overall better than we expected considering the age of the building. Zhang (Joong) was the lady on the desk (most often) with great command of English and wonderfully helpful with anything. We found it easier to meet tour operators at Bo Tai Hotel, turn right as you leave Lu Song Yuan, head down Banchang Lane then just across the street and up a bit from where you come out of Banchang lane is Bo Tai Hotel. Next door on right when leaving hotel is 18 Teahouse, Japanese/Italian food there is exceptional. Turn left out of hotel and head to Nanluogu Xiang street, great shopping and great food outlets wonderful evening atmosphere. Cannot recommend Drum & Gong Fusion restaurant 1st dish of vegetables great, 2nd dish of Sichuan Duck was a very burnt offering that could not be identified. We will return as we know others have to this lovely hotel.
On the whole a good hotel. Reception staff speak good English (even when I checked in at 10pm) and were very friendly and helpful. Corridors smell very strongly of smoke, but no smell in rooms. Good size room, great facilities, very clean. Restaurant has decent food but not great value - there are plenty of restaurants not far away. Would not recommend breakfast as plenty of better (value and quality) options nearby.
Hotel is very well located for city centre - Yong'anli is the nearest metro stop, take exit A2, walk behind LG Twin Towers, turn right and it is around a 2 minute walk. Small night-time market in street outside hotel - avoid buying, but very safe, no trouble.
Sightseeing tours desk in reception - would recommend you avoid if at all possible! I only went as non-Mandarin speaking and couldn't find a better way to see the Great Wall. You will visit all the sites promised, but you'll be taken to a Jade factory (high pressure to buy at outrageously inflated prices from a shiny salesroom), tea house (nice introduction with tea tasting, but absolutely rip-off prices) and best of all a complimentary foot massage - during which doctors and professors will appear from all sides, read your palm for 10 seconds in order to prescribe you essential medicine, only £180 per month for 3 months! Good to get you up to the Great Wall if you're alone, but find your own way to city centre attractions for a much better experience with much less hard-selling!

The Dawan hotel was a very good choice to stay in . My girlfriend is Chinese she lives in Tianjin which is the next biggest city near Beijing , she was suprised how good the location was ,i booked it myself from Australia . Its right near the main shopping area Wangfujing only a ten minute walk . The metro is 2 mins away which goes all over the city . There is a seven eleven type convienience store round the corner also some local Chinese eating places which we ate in a few times. The staff answered all our questions , the room was nice and cleaned every day , we had twin room which was quite large we get a better sleep in seperate beds. the aircon can be controlled buy you and can be turned off when needed , we leave it on at 28c just to take the edge of the heat off. the price was very good , i would not hesitate in staying here again when i return to Beijing. there is also a nice cake shop round the corner with all the lovely local creations. The main street has some real top notch hotels like the Lengandale Hotel . Dont search the net for hours just book this hotel and you wont be disappointed.
